so in theory they could go off freeview !!

Going way O/T I can confirm that the racing board took up their option to "convert" their existing licence to digital in the past week. What they do with the licences, it will be up to them and there are a number of options they could take, but there is a 2 year implementation obligation none the less.

I wonder if this saga will still be playing this time next year?

The cynic in thinks that maybe think if this is being delayed until after the Commerce Commission review of Sky is complete.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I would buy an ABs game for $15 if they were playing decent opposition (Aussie, SA, Argies). Probably only 6 - 10 games per year. Every time we go to the pub to watch the ABs it costs us at least $60. With PPV $40 buys the game and beer/chips for two. Therefore $20 saved per game, so 10 games pay for the $199 box.

To me live televised sport is comparable to going to see a movie. You are seeing something new/current. Movies cost $15 per viewer. PPV ABs $15 per household, so probably not bad value on that comparison.

SD sport might put me off. But then maybe I am currently watching SD sport at the pub anyway?

well if you are currently paying $60 per game for 10 games a year ($600 per year) then you might as well buy Sky basic for 12 months and Sky sports for the 2 months the tri-nations (quad-nations?) is on and it will cost you about the same AND you get access to all the other sports during that time and Sky basic for the rest of the year.

And that's assunming you only have an interest in watching 6-10 ABs games. If you want to watch your super rugby team or ITM cup team, or thebreakers, or the black caps, or anything else then your economics quickly become bad.

Let's say you want to watch your super rugby team as well as all the ABs games.
Super teams play around 12-15 games and the ABs play about 15 in non-world cup years.
so say 30 games a year at $25 a pop (I doubt rugby is going to be $15) comes to $750. might as well buy Sky with Sky sports for that as it won't cost much more and you get ALL sports and Sky Basic.

I think the prices are too high to be honest, but I guess its fine for a one-off. The problem is when you want to watch every game of the team your supporting. Like NPM said above me, it starts to add up and you might aswell get Sky.

Edit: ITM Cup is $15, All Blacks $20...

I hear that Igloo has been put on hold indefinitely. This is disappointing to say the least. Can this forum be renamed back to "Sky" again now that Igloo is on ice?

If that is the case, then a lot of $ has been spent on the physical build eg transmitters, set top boxes, licences, let alone the corporate side. Interesting times ahead

How can something whaich hasn't even launched yet have 'loyal' followers? what exactly is making you so loyal when you have not used their product?

Well I'm not sure how signing up for a newsletter makes you loyal, but moving on...

I reckon the problem is likely resting with sky. They have the most to lose if igloo is too successful, whereas TVNZ only have to gain, the the party most likely to be delaying is sky.
Maybe sky are holding off until somebody else enters the market. Telstraclear were talking about how they had something in he works, but now that they are being bought by vf that threat has gone away so maybe they have gotten cold feet.

All supposition on my part of course. I have no inside information.
