MikeAqua: I also get notifications saying Lightbox has stopped working, when it isn't actually running - ie I have exited the app and removed it from the recent programs list.

I've been getting this as well - after not having used Lightbox for a couple of days, and having removed it from the recent apps list, once even after restarting the phone, sometimes I'll unlock my phone and there is a message says Lightbox has stopped working.  Makes me wonder what work it's doing when I'm not using it...

Yep. A regular occurrence when I get to work the next day - phone says Lightbox has stopped. Have tried to "Report" the error a number of times but it then says Lightbox has stopped.

Can Lightbox comment? Why, when you leave the application gracefully, is it then "stopping" hours later?

I get this crashing on random occasions when not even have opened the app since rebooting, for whatever reason it's apparently set to run on startup (why?) and stays running in the background. Just the same "Lightbox has stopped unexpectedly".

I'll try and dig out the log next time it does it.

That was my experience too. I never used the app on my phone, only tablet, yet the message was appearing on both devices. It's an entertainment app for watching TV from time to time, certainly no need for it to be running continuously in the background - what the heck is it doing all the time (call me suspicious)? So I jettisoned the app off my devices. End of.

clod: Is it possible yet to use a laptop to cast to the tv thru chromecast yet ?

Should be able to cast the Lightbox tab if you're using Chrome?

In a moment of brilliance I asked Lightbox -

Chromecast for Lightbox currently works via a phone or tablet running iOS and Android. It will not work from a PC or Mac as we use a web player to deliver content, which is not compatible with Chromecast.

In the future we aim to migrate away from this web player to add this functionally while watching Lightbox through Chromecast.

Cock-up before conspiracy, my friend.

Or perhaps more poetically, never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Methinks there are some valid checks in the App to check on WiFi state and such like, but they are not being handled very well. Whether the end result - Lightbox has stopped - is down to the App still running or not tidying up these hooks I don't know.

People still want a web player, especially those who have an PC connected to teh TV. Not unless there is going to be a windows 10 app.
What suprises me is that TVNZ still haven't got chromecast functionality, but that maybe so it doesn't eat into Neons success.

Ha! you beat me to it!  Most certainly Cock-up before conspiracy, indeed my friend.

I have a rooted device, thus having the opportunity to have a look, a little closer.

I can confirm that Lightbox does NOT ask to run at 'BOOT_COMPLETED' nor can I see it adding it self into startup.
BUT peaking a little closer one can see that Lightbox does listen for other events/triggers such as 'WiFi_Display_Status_changed', or 'Connectivity_Changed' and suspect like huckster, that checking/listen in on the  WiFi state and such like are not being handled very well.
As a test I have blocked Lightbox from being able to receive broadcasts and since have not received the random Lightbox has crashed issue.

I still have other issues undecided, for which I hope the devs can find resolution for (have an open support ticket cool )

I've noticed on my S4 that the connection lost and connection restored pop ups often occur when I start our switch to another app that uses the Wi-Fi connection.

I haven't had any problems at all with Chromecast or the website version for weeks. Feeling a bit left out :)

Updated my S4 to the latest, stock, Lollipop. Lightbox works ok. But.....
Lollipop was running slow so I do some googling and people say clear your cache. So I restart the phone trying to get into the recovery menu. Takes me a few goes, so at least two reboots before I get there. Then I clear the cache and reboot one more time. Hours later, without having ever started it since, Lightbox says it has a problem.

Any progress on finding the problem....?

Sure! For your friends, tell them im pretty sure its;

* media.VOLUME_CHANGED_ACTION

I enabled lightbox to listen for events, one by one , and only when media.VOLUME_CHANGED_ACTION was allowed did I get the lighbox has crashed error.

This reflects my experience also. Hope it's fixed in the next update.

I get the light box crashed message when my alarm goes.  The alarm can't be stopped until the message is dismissed ...

Interesting .  With my Nexus 4 running A 5.1.1 I get the Lightbox Crash every day.  With my new Xiaomi Mi 4I  running  5.0.2  I haven't had one crash..  maybe there is another app interacting..

Regards,
