In their defence. I dont think Igloo was ever suppose to be winning over Sky subscribers. If it did they would be loosing existing customers...

I think its aimed at those that just have freeview. Pitty about the sports content though, I dont have Sky but pay-per-view sports was what I was after.

Sky Basic Package $46.12
Sky Sports addon $26.34

= $72.46 per month/$870 per year to watch live sport.

/ $14.95 igloo event charge and you get 4.8 events.
So basically, watch any more than 4 paid events per month and you're better off to get sky.

And if you want any thing in HD then you have to get sky, but that costs another $15 to get an HD capable mysky device and then an additional $9.99 to purchase the HD access Ticket.

The Free to air channels, One Two and 3 are received on Igloo in HD if the show is being broadcast in HD

Yes the SKY HD pricing is over the top
I only have a standard sky box connected to a Panasonic HDD recorder
I'm not paying extra for them to update their boxes to DVBS2 Mpeg4 HD etc

Yes, sorry that wasn't clear KiwiNZ, thanks for highlighting that.
To clarify, it's my understanding that no pay content, ie anything 'not freeview', will be available in HD. Meaning if you're after sky movies/sports in HD then Igloo will not be your friend. Hopefully this is wrong.

Yes, we're in a similar position, in that I'm after sports content (in HD ideally), on a realistic pay per view pricing plan. It doesn't appear that Igloo will offer that in my case.

You could use MP... but you'd likely have to do it with an analog tuner connected to the Igloo box because Igloo uses a cardless decryption system. Picture quality and reliability might not be so hot.

Yeah been there/done that all before.

Another reason why Im forced to stick with a huge bill each month for 90 mins a week of usage :(

Went into Bond and Bond and bought one at 930 this morning.

Powered up the box and went through the setup via broadband. All OK except the usb port won't recognise the 16G stick I put in. Will try another one and get back to you...

Edit: Bonus... 30 days free trial for the 11 extra channels

Maybe FAT32 partition for the USB stick mate. Not NTFS

If ^^ is correct and the size of the USB drive is limited to something like 2GB then I"m out... or am I interpreting that comment incorrectly?

Yeah, that works out to be roughly 27.5 minutes at 10 Mbps, but isn't the box also meant to be able to play other media from USB? Can't check that as the website seems to be down again. My point is that if the box is so locked down that you can't plug in a mate's USB stick to take a quick look at a video/photo/whatever simply because of a USB stick capacity limit then I think I'll pass.

As long as people are willing to pay for Sky subscriptions just to watch sport Sky won't offer a cheaper option.

I think they may have a market if they can leverage the movies and TV shows to non-Sky subscribers. Think is I don't want another Set Top Box, I want an app that will work with my TV. Pity is that Sky see themselves as a Pay TV company rather than a content channel so I'm not holding my breath.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

Do you need to "activate" this thing before can use it as a FTA STB?? I will most likely buy one of these as a spare STB for when my TiVo dies next time as my TV doesn't has a digital tuner but if it has to be activated first I'll leave it until the end of January when things return to normal . No point in wasting a month of free use over Xmas/ new Year if your not there..
