watching things in their original 4:3 is better than having it cropped to fit a 16:9 telly.

whoever did "Thunderbirds" for blu-ray butchered the episodes and made them all widescreen..... thats the main reason ive never bought the series on blu-ray :(

KiwiNZ: These old programmes should remain fond memories, when viewed again now they seldom pass the test of time.

Firstly, did you really need all those exclamation marks in your subject?

I'm in my late 20's, I can say I'm not in the slightest bit interested in a retro re-runs channel. If the shows were so popular they would still be producing new episodes today.

When does it start? Could be good for when there's little else good on Sky. So it lowers the common denominator.

reven: meh, they're all on netflix.

This channel looks to me like a pure content grab by Sky to keep the likes of Netflix out of their space. Will they be showing these shows on their 'On-demand' site as well?

I questioned Mediaworks why they didm't do something like this when they started TV3+1; it is a shame they didn't because I think they would have been in a far stronger place now if hey had!

didn't know the series had been re-imagined.

the two feature films (thunderbirds are go/thunderbird 6) were shot in widescreen - techniscope no less

i wonder if the thunderbirds butcher is related to the star trek over-embellisher who left them in 1.33 but did an almost george lucas and filled the remastered originals with all sorts of goofy cgi.

Whenever I watch old 4:3 content on my media player I just set it to stretch so it fills up the screen.
I hate those black bars down the side of the screen.
For the most part now I dont really notice that things look stretched any more - maybe I have just got used to it.
I guess that perhaps it makes people look a little rounder faced than they actually were at the time.
But then everyone puts on weight as they get older!

Completely the opposite to me then... Can't stand the stretched image myself. Black bars for me all the way! I just don't notice them now.

Same here.  I'm working in CHCH this week and the motel room TV is set to analog only and 16x9 Fatovision.  First thing I did was reset it back to 4x3..
