Don't let anybody tell you that you need to spend more than that on cables - for what you want these will work well.

Sky decoder goes into the input on the splitter - then two HDMI cables out, one to each TV.

This won't give you IR as well though. There are other options utilising ethernet to give you IR but the cost starts going up.

Hey mate just the info i was looking for

I will go with the splitter and a 15m cable.... If i wanted IR via ethernet how much would that roughly be?

I've got the blue-eye stuff - here - but that's quite expensive. I have a four room solution though so it's a bit different than what you want. When I did my install it was the only real option that was compatible with MySky. I found that a lot of the other remote extenders don't work with the MySky units.

I have since installed the IRSEND kits on other projects - here - much easier on the wallet and they also work well with MySky.

What you need for a two room solution as described is this kit - with a length of cat5 to run between.

If you didn't want to go down the wired route you could contact the IRSEND people and see if one of these or these will work with MySky - I've not tried them so can't give you an answer on that.

AS an aside you may need to pick up an extra short HDMI cable. I'm presuming you currently have one HDMI from the Sky box to your TV. That will still be needed for that TV (from the splitter), the long run is needed to run to your second TV (from the splitter) but you will also need an HDMI cable to run from the Sky box to the splitter.

If you are installing the long HDMI cable in the ceiling space or under the house etc then I strongly suggest hooking everything up to test it before running the cables - that way if any of the cables are duds you don't have to pull everything out again to send them away for replacement.

Composite video, so not good. We use the DigiTech model for a feed (no pun intended) to our church mother's room. Distance is about 20m open space with 1 wall in between, and it is struggling. Drops whenever someone walks between the 2 units.

I didnt see it mentioned above, but sky do their own modulator for about $50 - you would then need standard 75ohm coax through to the other tv.

Im guessing you only have one 75ohm aerial wall outlet + satellite?

The modulator will output (non hd) to another tv quite effectively.
If the second tv already has a wall socket, then it could be fairly cheap and easy to join what are possibly 2 existing redundant coax connections

Just a related query -

Do some Sky boxes come with Ethernet now? Just thought cos someone asked if there is Ethernet.

I have a standard Sky box non-HD with just RF2 output. Standard CRT TV, still works :D What is the best way to run a long cable to the bedrooms and just watch what it is watching? RF2 off Sky box or AV off the CRT? Something else? You guys seem to mention HDMI that's off the TV to the bedrooms right ... you can split HDMI out of interest into multiple bedrooms? Not for me but for info.

Oh. The RF2 output off the Sky box can be RG6 cable?

Hi haven't read all the replies, but here is the solution I used:

The 5.8GHz transmitter does not interfere with WiFi and vice versa. I tried a 2.4GHz Dick Smith one first and it was terrible - bad signal, static, and the remote extender pretty much failed to work constantly unless you contorted yourself into exactly the right position before pressing the button.

Because of my bad experience above, I was skeptical of the Jaycar one at first, but it gives a very reasonable picture on my 42" plasma in the bedroom. As the transmitter and receiver only have RCA connectors the quality is limited to standard def, therefore the picture is not as clear as the HD in the lounge, but still perfectly adequate for bedtime viewing.

My transmitter and receiver are approx 10 metres apart, and there are two bedrooms between the lounge and my bedroom. The signal travels through the 3 walls to reach my bedroom with no issues whatsoever.

The remote extender work very well and I have never had a problem with it failing to work. The best thing is even if I only point it vaguely in the general direction of the receiver it will still send the command back to the Sky decoder perfectly (no more persistent button pushing and pointing of the remote!!)

I have MySky HDI, so I run an HDMI cable from the decoder to the lounge TV, and have the transmitter plugged into the RCA outputs of the decoder to send to the bedroom.

The MySkyHD's have Ethernet on them but it is not enabled for any use for the public at all.

Just finally got this sort in my new house!

First tried RCA Video Output from MySky to RF converter into TV Cable Splitter, gave analoge Sky to all TV's in house but at low quality

Then RCA Video Out to 2.4mhz Transmitter between MySky and 2nd TV in another lounge, better than RF, but not by much.

Finally used HDMI Splitter from MySky into single Cat6 cable Transmitter / Receiver for full digital HD. Costs about $300 including Splitter, Transmitter / Receiver and extra HDMI cables.

Sorry to come in late to this party, only just read the topic today

I have successfully used a 30 m component cable (very thick and wife hated it on the floor) which attached via a scart cable to back of Mysky - to pipe sky signal to our bedroom TV. Worked well and used it for years (started before mysky).

My wife is Indian and has her own satelite service/box so when she was watching Bollywood, I retreated to the bedroom to watch Sky.

Now I have a tablet to watch TV and can sit next to her.
