NonprayingMantis:
sonyxperiageek: And it's still measuring my iSky data as "Zero-rated data" on Slingshot right now... even though it's June the 1st.

it says during June, not on 1st June

"During June 2013, there will no longer be unmetered data plans for iSKY viewing with our Broadband Partners."

Wouldn't "during June" mean June 1-30th? It didn't say "Sometime" during June according to your/their quote.

Wow... this can't come soon enough.... Whatever PC-AT machine with RLL drive they are using to serve iSky at the moment over a wet piece of string couldn't keep up at all during the All Blacks/France test match tonight... pausing and stuttering every few seconds.

No... There was nothing wrong on my end, or with my ISP.

You obviously need another master filter.

You obviously need another master filter.

I find three master filters and then an inline filter gives best results.

Also ensure you are running at least three layers of NAT.

Yes, I was very pissed at iSky over tonight's MAJOR BUFFERING of the All Blacks' game! It got better at the beginning of the 2nd half, probably because some people left at half time..

I couldn't but help notice this coincides with the commerce commission looking into the deals sky had with several ISPs as being anti-competitive . One way to end that is not have partnerships anymore and force all ISPs to have the same access regardless of peering arrangements. With the added bonus of hopefully having a distribution network which can coupe

CDN has nothing to do with what devices a service is available on AFAIK

kinda

depends what technology the CDN will support (Flash, Siverlight etc).

Also depends on how the content provider encodes the content.

No one solution solves all :(

I'm keen to see what this does for my Premier league viewing from bed.

Quite like the idea of being able to see the ball, whilst watching iSky...

Wow, all this seems like a step backwards! Great more quality but I would like to see more NZ websites provided unmetered not fewer.

Does this mean that Vodafone(TCL cable) will also be dropping unmetered access to TV3 on-demand?

I would love to see all NZ TV on demand unmetered - even better if iTunes or Spotify were too.

(I can dream!!)

I think it's a big step forward... Quality of service has been preferred here by all accounts and to me at least, I vastly prefer quality over unmetered. My ISP didn't unmeter it anyway and in fact the majority of BB users in NZ didn't have it unmetered.

Unmetering individual sites has proved problematic to implement as well, not least because of end users' lack of understanding. (cf Steam unmetering!)

Finally, the traffic ain't free. Unmetering high traffic sites (although iSky isn't high traffic really) can create horrible investment decisions...

with the size of datacaps now, unmetering individual sites is pretty pointless IMO. I watch VAST amounts of Netflix, download quite a few movies and games, and rarely hit my 150GB cap, and that is far from the biggest cap available in NZ

I actually see unmetered traffic as a horrible thing. It's also interested to see people who jump on the whole net neutrality bandwagon also loving it.

At the end of the day net neutrality is a myth and can't exist in the real along with unmetered traffic and flat rate internet.
