That's too many devices anyway, you can only register 5.  ;-)

You said you wouldn't use the service because it's not available on ALL devices.  Then you retract that and say it's because Sky are evil.  Sounds to me like you enjoy complaining and have no intention of using the service anyway.  To complain about something that you have no intention of using just fills up the thread.  Try chilling out, it's a long weekend.... have a nice one.

*yawn* Still more expensive and probably with less content than streaming Netflix using a DNS service like Unotelly.

On a slightly different subject, what maximum video resolution is generally used for these streaming services?  Does US Netflix do 1080p or just 720p?

Netflix can deliver a maximum of 1080p on its Ultra HD plan at $11.99 (USD) per month. Or HD (720p) at $8.99 per month. Or SD at $7.99 per month. Obviously not all content is available in Full HD, although most newish movies and tv episodes are.

The other thing to keep in mind is that netflix uses 'adaptive streaming' which automatically adjusts the resolution based on your current connection speed, so you need a fairly fast connection, at least VDSL (but preferably fibre) to reliably stream at 1080p.

Lias: Wonder if Vodafone TV / TBoxes will be upgraded to support this as well, given we currently get normal sky and sky go.

No. Sky have another mySky compatible VOD service coming next year.

For f*#@'s sake, they just don't CARE do they? I'm not going to bother unless it's available on ALL android devices.

It only has to be available on the devices you have doesn't it? ;-)

I have 2 pcs, 2 laptops, a surface RT a Samsung Note 10.1, and a Galaxy S3 which will theoretically all be capable of viewing Neon. But I object on principle. Just like I object to everything that Apple do - because it's anti-competitive, monopolistic bulls%$t.

Sky are the evil empire, and for that reason I'll stick with lightbox, even though it is owned by the next most evil company in the country - Telecom (sorry, Spark)

Sorry, but I don't follow this hate mentality. I have a mate who refuses to get a PS as he hates Sony. I know many on here hate Sky, its the thin gto do, but at the end of the day, users can choose what they buy or not buy. In the TV world, there is competition. EPL split off, Quickflix, my company's Lightbox, Sky's Neon, and no doubt others I have missed. This is the competition that the Sky haters have been wanting, its here.

Doesn't mean people will suddenly warm to Sky as a company. Just in the same way that people didn't suddenly warm to Telecom once competition came along. People have emotional connections to businesses, either negative or positive, that depend on how well people feel they are treated by that company. Companies that are or were a monopoly (by default or otherwise) commonly trigger a negative emotional response because often there is no choice but to be with them to receive the kind of product they are offering. Once competition comes along, that company can find it very hard to shake the perception that they are anything more than the monopoly they once were. Some even go to the extremes of changing their name...

Touché! I just prefer to have an opinion on a company but first and foremost, what suits me now. Not what options I exclude from the past issues or opinions I had on a company

Back on topic, what we've seen so far from Neon TV is a major let-down.

Lightbox was appetising enough to sign onto the trial, and the only reason I canned the subscription was it's unavailability on Roku or similar product.

Until we see the actual product and line-up, I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt - but I don't think I will be subscribing.

It looks like it will cost more than Netflix and, at least as importantly, won't support my existing hardware for piping video to my TVs (WD Lives and Minix android boxes). Writing an android app, and then making it available on Samsung devices only, seems a bit of a strange strategy. Especially when Netflix and Hulu with which, whether Sky likes it or not, the new service is in direct competition run on a wide set of devices.

Perhaps the "Samsung" link is a deal where Samsung [maybe] write/support the app and get to provide it though their store... thus able to be had directly on all Samsung TV's? That would rock as that would open it up to a large percentage of non-iPhone/AppleTV and/or non-geeks who can then just 'set and forget' it on their normal TV too?
