I should just wait for the press release, but how new does the Samsung TV have to be?  Mine is 2011 I think (UA40D).  3Now doesn't work on TVs of this age, so I'm thinking I may be out of luck.

Jase2985: what about other services like Plex, xmbc, android etc

i think a lot of people haven't bothered signing up to your services because you have your service on a very limited number of devices

Rome wasn't built in one day - we're busy standing up our service on more devices. This is just the first wave.

That being said, we can't realistically support every single device in existence and need to prioritise based on market sizes, easy of development and commercial partnerships.

How about the Apple TV with out having to buy all the other Apple crap??

Yeah, that would be the best option for us. But I understand that developing for the Apple TV is an invite only affair, so it may not be that easy for Lightbox to even get a chance to target it.

Chromecast then??    There's plenty of people selling them here even if they are not "officially" on the NZ Play Store.... well there's no hardware on the NZ Play Store..

Lightbox: We'll have a press release out later today, but nothing to announce on Panasonic, no.

Whats the best way to keep up-to-date with whats happening with Lightbox?

I've been using it since launch and am generally happy with it on the one device that it runs on but sort of feel like there has not been much progress in terms of adding support for more devices or fixing bugs that were there at launch.

This perception may be unfair but since I don't know where to see any announcements it's hard to tell.
I'm happy to see this update for Samsung even though I don't have one because it means stuff is happening.  Looking forward to hearing about more stuff happening.

What happens if we done use Twitter or Facebook?  I personally don't like either service and would rather see detailed information on Geekzone where there is a generally higher level of understanding of these things, and where we (generally) understand that a Smart TV app for example may work on a Samsung but not a Panasonic.  And we don't have to deal with all the crap that comes with using Facebook.

Why don't you publish a change log?  I am sure there are many geekzone users who would like to see this.  And is there a reason you cannot publish a plan of targeted devices with a rough timeline?

Sorry, but it's only for 2012 and onwards.

The overall number of Chromecast devices in NZ is still pretty low, though and will stay pretty low until an official launch. But Chromecast is absolutely an option.

On the other hand, the overall number of Panasonic, LG, Sony etc Televisions is quite high in NZ, so will there be any love for anything other than Samsung TVs? As above, it would be nice to know where Lightbox intends to go with device support etc. Any chance this could happen please? :-)

If you build it, they will come.

EDIT: And a Chromecast is a heck of a lot cheaper than replacing your 2-year old TV.....

Expanding on this - wouldn't it make sense for Spark to sell Chromecast devices?  I have no idea as to the practicality (licenses/regions/etc) of this, but it would be a great way to get both Chromecast's into NZ homes, along with a locally created and supported source of content.

Lightbox/Spark - can you comment on this?

but is it low for your target demographic?  surely nerds/geeks would be the first type of people to sign up for these types of services (or the ones to recommend it to non geeks).  and a chromecast would be quite common among them.  you can just rock on down to pbtech (or order online) and get a chrome cast for $65ish.

just trying to move chromecast further up the priority list :D
