Funny.

I haven't had any issues - maybe it is because I live in Wellington smile

I did the full basic trouble shooting.

Then spoke with VF who supply the Sky as part of the mobile/home broadband thing. They tried to get Sky, saying that they had different numbers to call that might work but ended up leaving messages themselves.

Sky rang me the following afternoon and did more troubleshooting. No joy. Technician required.

However...the technicians only visit our area once a week apparently and so far no one has called me with an appointment.

RunningMan:
Geektastic:
Would you believe they have not yet discovered shift work or Customer service 101 and are actually closed?

No. Their website says they are staffed 8am - 9pm on public holidays (closing an hour earlier than normal).

https://skytv.custhelp.com/app/contactus/callus

It may say that but the message you get on Christmas Day says that they are completely closed.

insane:
Geektastic: I agree. They are a major tv service provider and this is one of the biggest tv watching periods of the year.

Shift work would be the norm. For example Vodafone are at work and providing Customer support right now.

Maybe Vodafone are providing that support out of another country where Christmas is not celebrated, or where workers have lesser rights than in NZ.

I didn't turn the TV on all day, fired up the Weber and had a great BBQ with family instead :)

Tomorrow the TV might get used..

AFAIK VF contact centre is in NZ but no doubt Johnr will advise! The person on the phone was pretty NZ sounding to my ears anyway.

That was clearly sarcasm.  Put bluntly:

TV not working: no big deal, get over it.
Phone not working: can't dial 111 when grandma has a heart attack.

That's why Vodafone works Christmas day and Sky doesn't.

I don't know why, but this post by you REALLY rubbed me the wrong way.  Perhaps it was the arrogant sense of entitlement conveyed in your disgust at Sky, a mere TV provider (and one I don't even like!), allowing their employees to stay home on Christmas of all days..

I pay them to provide a service. I expect that service 24/7.

I probably have higher expectations than you. I find many people here are happy to accept what I regard as poor service. If my customers want me to work on public holidays, I work - I expect the same from everyone else, especially huge companies with lots of staff who could easily arrange shifts to cover it. They may have staff who do not celebrate Christmas and who would rather earn some money.

If my mobile wasn't working on Xmas Day I wouldn't be able to call VF to complain about it...!

you really do have unrealistic expectations.

they have never ever worked 24/7 with customer service at sky, why should have have to? just so you can have sky on christmas day? get real, its not a life or death service, you can cope with out it for a day or two.

They should have to so they can solve customer's problems. At the very least they should be open 16 hours a day, every day. I noted that they ensured they had a self-service option for joining Sky on Christmas Day so that they wouldn't miss out on taking anyone's money!

They clearly do not think they need to bother to be available - probably because there is not a great deal of competition.

Rest assured they would lose my business if there was a more customer-focussed alternative.

No

You're paying for a domestic service. Anything with a 24/7 guarantee usually comes at over ten times the price

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Do you live a miserable life where TV is your only companion? Because that's what it sounds like.
