I've just signed up. I had no intention of getting Lightbox, but hey, if it's free, why not? I love free stuff!

If you already have Lightbox, you can still grab a code and apply it to your current subscription. I think it's a smart move, because it will encourage people to try the service, and if they get better content on there during the 12 months, people may be reluctant to let it go once the year is up. Plus it means people have another disincentive to switch to other suppliers if the overall deal is just that little bit sweeter. Undoubtedly it's also to try and snap up customers before Neon and Netflix are up and running. I also have Netflix and Hulu (US) and MySky so at the end of the year one of them will have to go. I can't justify paying for three streaming services plus Sky basic. Maybe Sky will be the one that goes - or I might replace it with Neon to balance overall outlay. In any case, I think it's great to actually have that choice. Such an improvement over a couple of years ago, even if there's still a way to go.

loceff13: Customers on the half price six month offer can apply the coupon and their free 12 months starts after their current offer expires.

Their T&Cs say "If you have previously signed up for the 6 month discount offer, your Lightbox subscription will automatically be switched to the new offer on your next renewal date."

So in theory there's no need to do anything to get the freebie :-)

I'm one of those sitting on the fence waiting to see what Netflix does. Netflix is  also compatible with my Apple TV and Chromecast something which Lightbox is not and I don't want to watch it on a PC..

If they go a Chromecast plugin I'd most likely sign up..

I would just like to say that I just signed up because of this offer (yay!) and I gave it a 12 character password randomly generated by my password manager consisting of letters, numbers and other characters ... and the web page told me my password was weak.

Edit: and apparently the reason it is "weak" is because although it will allow you to set a password containing a "*" and/or a "^" it won't accept one or both of those two when you back to login. Khhhhhaaaaaaan! ಠ_ಠ

True that does make sense.

Pessimists everywhere.

Optimist here :-)

I've been a Lightbox user since the Beta, and subscribed as soon as that finished.

It has been steadily improving, both in terms of content and delivery, and we watch it all the time. In fact, we have Netflix, Hulu & Lightbox subscriptions, and recently have been watching more content on Lightbox than the other services. I also understand Lightbox have the exclusive rights to Better Call Saul when it premieres soon (next month?).

The PS3/PS4 apps were a real revelation for us, and a far better way to consume content than the iPad->AirPlay->Apple TV approach we initially had to use.

And now they want to give me 12 months for free? Where do I sign? :-D

tl;dr version: Awesome news!

Ah, another good reason to drag the old PS3 out of mothballs. Does anyone know if the Sony home theatre blu-ray systems have the same app (or can get it)?

I have been on the 6 month half price deal ($7.50) for the last couple of months.

I just logged in and checked the "subscription" section of my Lightbox account, and it has already been automatically updated - it states my discount is now $15 per month, and I have 12 discounts remaining. Sweet!

I'm loving Lightbox. It works amazingly with my Samsung smart TV and also my galaxy Tab 4. Picture quality is really decent IMHO.

Yes I work for Spark Digital, but I have nothing to do with the running of Lightbox so my opinion of it is purely based on being one of their customers.

Yeah, I just got an email stating:-

Hi David,

To say thanks, Spark is kicking in 12 months of Lightbox for all its home broadband customers, as of January 20.

Since you've already applied a Spark voucher code to get Lightbox half-price for six months, we've automatically transferred you onto this even sweeter deal. We'll remind you when your next payment is due — not till 2016!

Cheers,
The team at Lightbox

They hinted strongly on a different thread that Chromecast is probably pretty imminent.
I'd imagine they'll be flogging their developers pretty hard to get as many devices on board before Netflix turns up.

Based on this article, I think they intend to have each episode available shortly after they've aired in the US.

Lightbox is promising to air episodes "as soon as possible" after they screen in the US, where it will premiere on cable network AMC from February 8.

MarkHeadroom: Just signed up. The Light Box help page page says that I can install the Android app on a Galaxy Tab2 7.0" (which I have), but Google Play says "This app is incompatible with all of your devices."

Is it on 4.2.2 or stil 4.0? I had to upgrade our tab2 10 to 4.2.2 jellybean official before lightbox would install. Oddly the tab2 10 is not listed as compatible.

4.1.1.
