Those of you having trouble playing content, can you please try the following:

  • Restarting your browser (closing it completely and restarting it)
  • Clearing your cookies
  • Clearing the Silverlight cache (right click on the Silverlight loading screen to bring up Silverlight preferences, delete application storage)
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Silverlight
Please note that long load times can also be caused by e.g. DNS spoofing (essentially requesting the stream from the US or other places). If that's not the reason, playback issues are generally related to the Silverlight plugin.

And yes, Silverlight has plenty of problems. DASH streaming (which unlocks HTML5 players) only quite recently matured to a reliable, widely supported standard in terms of encrypted content. We'll migrate off Silverlight as soon as possible, but it's a pretty massive undertaking.

Lightbox: Those of you having trouble playing content

I was able to get it working in Safari by deleting my laptop from the list of devices.

Perhaps I was too hasty before the "You've exceeded your device limit, buster!" message came up when initially testing, but I was waiting for quite a while. I had also killed Safari prior to testing again, but that may be a red herring.

In other news, we've just added a bunch of stuff, including "Powers" to the service.

joker97: took forever to get going!

IE11 it says "allow mixed content?" - which i interpreted to be http + https in the same page then it failed to load

so i used chrome, waited nothing happened

being impatient i then used mozilla, and went to make coffee and then it loaded and keeps loading.

that's my layman's experience!

I don't have a Lightbox account but loading the page on IE worked fine, no mixed content warnings. Perhaps you should clear your cache and try again? Also loaded on Chrome and no problems - finished loading in a couple of seconds.

Killerkiwi2005: According to the tradme stats thats more than 35% or your potential users http://labs.trademe.co.nz/media/48601/dec-2014-browsers-over5.png

And Trade Me has a very conservative audience. In the first three months of 2015 the Geekzone audience was 50% Chrome, 21% Firefox, 15% IE.

Actually it's end of March, time to post the annual Analytics report in my blog.

Lightbox still does not work on devices that I care about:
1. Chromebook
2. Any Android, not just Samsung. It does not even work on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 running SlimROM
3. Chromecast

The new website looks good and shows play well for me in Safari on an oldish iMac with a VDSL connection in Wellington. The app is also running well on iPad - cheers.

Then put the tab 2 back onto stock 4.2.2 and it works perfectly. None of the streaming services work on rooted roms if I recall correctly. Chromecast is coming from another thread on here somewhere.

Works fine for me on all browsers on Windows 7. Looks good if a bit netflix like!

Is there a website or place where I can get info about future/ 'coming soon' content on Lightbox?
Have watched the first 2 series of 'Sherlock';  but I have no idea if or when to expect the 3rd series.
