I no longer use lightbox.  But when I did I remember running into this problem.  Logged a ticket with Sparks helpdesk and nothing.

I did however manage to find a solution.  The cause of the issue is caused by some silverlight files but they are not in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight

It was either C:\users\userid\appdata\locallow\

or C:\Program Files\Common Files\

From memory I think it was called content or license.  I will double check when I get home.

Actually I omitted two more steps that they asked me to try which were

Delete the folder %userprofile%\appdata\LocalLow\Microsoft\Silverlight\is
Delete file %programdata%\Microsoft\PlayReady\mspr.hds

Neither of these made any difference for me.  Was the change you made something different?

Case closed by Lightbox with suggestion problem is specific to my 2 different computers. Interesting that the only replies from others here on win7 were experiencing same problems. Not one person on win7 confirmed it works at proper frame rate. I think that Silverlight is a big part of the problem. At least Netflix works without the same problems

Actually I'm running it on Win7 64, also a 30/10 internet plan, and I've never experienced the kind of thing you reported. Maybe the lack of replies were that we had nothing to offer since we'd not seen it ourselves, and lots of "I dont know but have you tried this" isnt always constructive.

You say that your CPUs were i3 and core2 duo - I would hazard thats the problem, if I had to hazard anything, because if there is any video conversion work going on those are not a lot these days of HD content.  For example my laptop is an i5 and yesterday I had to give up trying to chromecast a highly compressed 1920x1024 mp4 because all 4 cores were maxed out at 100% decompressing and converting and that wasnt enough to keep the chromecast supplied. Pity as it was very pretty but too many "buffering..." to be watchable. Thats got nothing to do with the fact that the laptop is at about 10% when casting or viewing something thats not compressed and/or less than full HD.

Silverlight is supposed to adapt output quality based on internet speed but maybe it struggles to adapt to local CPU capability? Have you checked the resource monitor when this is happening?
Just a thought.

Yes, I have checked and its a long vway from being CPU bound even when configuring silverlight to disable hardware acceleration. Silverlight test video from silverlight test site plays perfectly at 24fps in HD

Yuu should check the Premier league websites under their FAQs, as it provides far more details on what can cause this type of problem. I suspect it is lightboxs automated video quality system, and a fluctuating connection speed. The big problem with lightbox is you can't adjust the quality manually, which you can do with premier pass.  I had this same issue with both premier league and lightbox, but reducing the quality on premier pass fixed it on that.

My feeling is that the effect is too subtle for the majority of viewers to spot.

When I first subscribed to Lightbox earlier this year I was trying to determine which platform was better, having a choice of two.  I soon found watching on the PC was less comfortable for my eyes than the PS3, even though the PS3 irritated me with some random crashes.  After checking colour settings, further A/B comparison lead me to conclude that the viewing discomfort was related to a poor or inconsistent framerate on the PC.  Other than reinstalling Silverlight I have not tried anything else to improve the PC.

I only use the PS3 now and it is mostly crash-free if I minimise use of fast-forward/rewind.  With HD content especially, I'm finding the viewing experience on the PS3 is very good.

Oh my 2nd post didn't actually post.

There is another folder in %programdata%\Microsoft\PlayReady if i remember rightly. I had to delete the lot.  It creates new ones on next lightbox video run.

I tired deleting the whole folder.  Afterwards I tried to play lighbox and it jsut sat there not playing anything.  I had to unistall and reinstall Silverlight to get it working again.  Unforutnately the video quality was exactly the same.

That suck's. Are you using Google chrome by any chance?  Whilst I was watching netflix (HTML5) the other night i noticed i was getting a lot of vertical tearing.

Turns out Chrome disabled some plugins by default.  First you have to do: chrome://flags/#enable-npapi

Then you can go chrome://plugins/ and enable

Also whilst in chrome://flags/ do a search for GPU see what rendering options can be changed.

I have the same symptoms with Chrome, IE and Firefox on the 2 different machines. Yes, in latest release of Chrome they disabled NPAPI required for Silverlight and now requires enabling as you described. Supposedlysupport for it will be gone altogether by Sept. I hope Lightbox is working on HTML5 support
