MikeB4: Not on my 65" VT Plasma Panasonic

Not an expert, but I think 2013 was the last year Panasonic did plasma.

is there a reason the app doesn't work on the older models - or is it just not tested?

littleheaven: Is it coming on any of the Freeview PVR boxes? I have a DMR-BWT840.

Even if it could would probably be a bad idea as I bet the recorder would take priority.

I am struggling to see a future for Lightbox in the NZ market, their momentum is too slow and the other offerings are way out in front, even Quickflix is doing better. Granted it has taken the a while though.  Given Sparks track record, remember Flying Pig? For example
I can see Spark pulling the plug on Lightbox in the near future.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply - I've been out of action recently.

Previous years of Panasonic TVs don't support content encryption in the software, so can't support protected playback.

While there are ways around that (coding directly to the firmware layer etc.), it's very expensive and hard, so we've had to balance market sizing vs. effort needed.

Lightbox - we are online TV.

Any chance we could see Sony Smart TV's with a lightbox app?

Netflix builds straight to the firmware layer.

Certain content providers will allow you to distribute SD content to non protected screens, especially under legacy agreements. We'd be unable to offer a satisfactory experience (full catalogue and HD quality), so we don't really consider this to be an option.
