Hiamie:

5) Drop the self promotion ads - or at least put ads between programs where possible. Interrupting a 30 minute program 3 times, mostly for self promotion is so disruptive... enough to make one consider downloading from the Internet.

And on a slightly less important note... smaller less invasive channel logos. Better still, put them up for just a few seconds every few minutes - even better.... maybe remove them all together... after all, we already know what channel we are watching (We selected it from the remote in the first place!)... and we can always press the "Info" button on the remote if we need to!

Do the above and maybe you will gain customers rather than losing them!

^^^^^ This!

There is quite a bit of interesting content on channels like the Zone, but the constant interruptions make them unwatchable (as bad as, or worse, than Freeview). I would keep the sub I am close to cancelling if they cease interrupting the programming. Until then, a bunch of channels I am paying for have essentially no value to me.

Dropping the logos would also be nice. Or, at a minimum, at least move the logos completely to the corner of the screen and make them smaller.

We watch most Sky stuff when recorded. Even if its on now, we record, make a cuppa, read Geekzone, then watch with the FF button handy. LOL looking at it now, the FF button is almost worn out

I reckon the ads on Discovery and Nat Geo are longer than the actual program you watch on either

Aren't they 'through' channels so if there was no adverts you would just get a blank screen?

the absolute worst for this is E Channel.

They do mini episodes in ad breaks that are longer than the sections of programs being watched.

Gave up watching that channel years ago as a result.

The kids channels are a bit of the same...you can be watching a programme on the Cartoon Network and suddenly find yourself watching something else, but then head back into the programme you were on before, after a few additional ads. Very confusing.

having got the kids used to Lightbox and Netflix, and never seeing a TV ad in their whole life,  when we were at a holiday bach that only had Sky and no internet it was an absolute nightmare having to explain to them why their program had stopped for a few minutes, and why they couldn't choose what they wanted to watch when they wanted, right from the beginning.

Linear TV programming truly is the devil's work.

What if the programming isn't on light box or Netflix?

Personally I have no problem with NZ ads filling the blank spots on "through" channels (Like Nat Geo, Discovery etc), but I take issue in paying a monthly subscription to Sky, and then being forced to watch or fast forward through unnecessary program interruptions on non "through" channels (Like Box, Vibe, some music channels etc).

Yes, I know I could just record the programs first, then skip the ads, but sometimes I just want to chill and watch whatever is "on" without having to prepare first and record in advance, just so I can skip those irritating and pointless ads.

Heck, if I have to prepare / record first, I may as well get my programs from another source, and ditch Sky.
Now there's a thought!
Hmmmmm.
