stagnant16:tdgeek:mattwnz: But you have really only got the deal for 12 months though. It doesn't auto renew at that figure does it? Companies tend to have these introductionary offers for new customers. ISPs do the same ting, but with ISPs, once the 12 months is U you can switch to anther provider offering that same sort of deal. It is far more difficult with pay TV, as there isn't competition. So if they don't follow on with the contract, then you have to cancel and look at streaming options.
Lightbox, Netflix, Neon, Quickflix, plus the sport streamers, plus accessing via a geo unblocker. Competition is everywhere.
I read her all the time that Skys content is rubbish, but then a deal comes along and everybody rushes in. Odd.
Competition may be everywhere but competition in isolation is expensive and for this reason sky will continue to exist especially when it comes to sports.
When Sky was the one pay tv option, Sky existed as it had all the extra content. Sport isn't cheap, I read recently, maybe in their financial results that sport was by far the highest cost.
If Sky was the only option, well we pay the sub or we don't.
When Sky isn't now the only option, we get fragmentation. We keep Sky for the kids or WAF, plus we got to pay for soccer, re the EPL. Or Lightbox, etc, etc, bring sports in, way cool. Cheaper, way cool. We may find the 4 sports we love are on 4 subscription services. We now subscribe to multi services, plus Fanpass, and we may well end up paying a similar cost, and we have one, two, five, means to see the services we subscribe to, instead of the single MySky recorder.
At the end of the day, we have competition. Others could step up and buy sports, they can if they choose to pay, and we may have to pay extra topup subs. Ultimately I can see Skys subs reducing post RWC, maybe not a whole lot, maybe midway between the current price and the deals we see posted here. That competition based price reduction is at the cost of fragmentation, we can't really have it both ways. There will no doubt be some lucky ones where their stuff is all on one or two services.
