The only problem I envisage is that the NZ Apple TV wont come with the siri remote as they have mentioned two remotes for the ATV4! Might have to go duty free Oz?

Where does that rumour come from? Check out the information for the AppleTV on apple.co.nz:
http://www.apple.com/nz/tv/

Its the same remote as on the Australian site being shown on the page. If it was to be different, I would have thought they would have made sure to show the correct remote..

I noticed on the compare page it doesn't mention the dual microphones like it does on the australian page http://www.apple.com/nz/tv/compare/ http://www.apple.com/au/tv/compare/
they also call it the "apple tv remote" not "Siri Remote"

This is true, but without seeing one yet, the remotes look physically identical so the hope is Siri will be enabled with a software update down the track, kind of like how it was with the iPhone back in the day.

It would be really weird if they hobbled their hardware for certain markets. Its more costly and I don't see the benefit. Besides, they will likely come out with Siri for the AppleTV for NZ as well.

I think its a case of changing the marketing language a little since their Siri service is not available yet. AND I am pretty confident that the NZ version will work with Siri if you set it up with Australian or US region.

Yes, I agree. The hardware is likely identical. They probably just need to do a bit more work to make it function in our market (I hope they think it's worth it for the size of the customer base here). My current AppleTV thinks it's American - set up to US iTunes with Unotelly DNS - so I will be giving your theory a try when I get the new one.

Odd as NZ Siri is not new, its on me phone as has been since for an age, or about 1.5 years, which is an age for phones

trig42: Yes, I hope they are working on an App (can't be that hard can it - TVOS and iOS must be pretty much the same, just need an optimized UI?)

In the same vein, I hope TVNZ, TV3, MaoriTV and Sky have got Devs working on Apps too. FanPass on the AppleTV would be pretty compelling IMO.

When it comes to protected video content, it's not quite as straightforward as tweaking the UI. That said, we want to be on there, and we’re currently looking at options to make this happen so watch this space.

Now the Apple TV has been released, do you have any update on if/when Lightbox will have an app on it?

Thanks

No update at this stage, other than to reiterate that we're keen to get on there, and we're looking at how we can make that happen as soon as possible.

Airplay was supposedly a priority too but that is still not working is it... anything in the pipeline?

Airplay is definitely a priority. Unfortunately, the method of fixing the issue actually requires us to change the digital rights management solution that our content requires - and that's not a quick fix. So, early-2016 is what we're aiming for.

That's a shame My free sub will have finished by then... not sure I want to pay for something I have difficulty using... the PS4 app is a bit flakey (freezes and reboots required).  I've heard Chromecast works well but I don't want to buy yet another device.  I'll have to wait and see I guess.

With 3Now on the Apple TV4, I take it Lightbox is not a long way off?

We're looking into it, but no firm timeframe at this stage.

Ditto. My three free months expires in mid-Jan, so I may get a week or two of being able to Airplay Lightbox (but unlikely given these dates are often ever-moveable!), which means I'll hardly make use of Lightbox in that time given we watch most of our content on the TV. Without this fixed (and working basically flawlessly) and/or a ATV4 app I'll never consider paying money for Lightbox, given Netflix and Hulu work on every device in the house (ATV, laptops, HTPC, tablets, phones...).
