I agree, but also think that it should be $30 for a TV (ie fan pass)...and not with a heavy subsidy and the requirement to subscribe for a year.

I don't seen how they can charge $16 for a mobile device and $99 for a tv. It just doesn't compute.

Yea Sky's complete pricing has always been a bit of a shambles.

I checked their website this morning, Sky Starter + Sky Sports = $54.81 per month. At least its better than what it was a few months ago. I dont need/want the Sky Starter, and would be quiet happy to signup to Sky Sports for the advertised $29.90 per month but they don't allow that.

Anyone know the list of "other select Android Mobile Phones"? I seem to be able to install the Fanpass app but even then it's not clear to me whether or not that would let me sign up for the mobile deal. My current choice of device isn't exactly mainstream (BlackBerry KeyOne).

The Football World Cup is coming and there's no way I can justify $100 for the two games I will probably end up having time to watch, but having the highlights package available even if only on a mobile for $16 is something I can justify.

I am tied to Vodafone HFC so won't be switching to Spark for the $30 deal.

Yes thats the decoder option. It would also give you access to the Sky Go App, so you can also watch live sports on your mobile too.

If I mirror Netflix to the TV from my Note 8 it actually works very well. Not that I would normally do this, but it definitely works well. I see Sky says it won't work... but will it I wonder?, would the app actually even know? that's the only way they would get my money.

If you are able to install the App on your Android device and open it - FAN PASS mobile should work fine. If you register for a Fan Pass account try playing one of the free highlights on the app - this will tell you whether or not it will work.

I'm assuming the mobile reference is that it's low res?

One could probably sideload the app onto another device and display on a TV, but I expect the resolution will look like hit.

On another note, Sky is doing just anything to avoid offering what new customers would want.

And all the while offering the telemarketing deal through the back door.

Mental company, well stuck in the past and suffering the consequences now.

FP mobile for $15pm up to 6" screen

FP 6 month contract for $56pm

FP pay per month $99

Sky starter + sports $55pm ($65 with HD ticket)

Looking at this purely on a price to features ratio, you get far more with a traditional sky box, it's a no brainier all pop ups + ESPN.

FP at $99 you gotta be a mug to pay that when the 6 month offering is $43 cheaper.

~~FP mobile I can see me using that for NBA and NFL games only (day games). I certainly wouldn't watch the rugby at home on my phone especially when the wife enjoys the league too. It's not for me.~~ scratch that, FP no ESPN = no US sport

What's the output resolution for Fanpass, 720p?? Lol

I thought Sky was planning on moving into the 21st century? It just feels like smoke and mirrors considering a STB package is still a far better option.

As they advised, sometime this year there will be a Sky app. No STB, cheaper.

If they made FP too cheap and too featured that will cannibalise the other. This way they can get something back that they would not have had.

I don't think "an exodus of traditional satellite pay-TV subscribers" is sufficient to explain all this recent activity. My speculation is it feels more like the panicky response of an incumbent who believes a major competitor is about to enter the market. Rumours, anyone?

A new player would likely want to partner with a large ISP, and Sky has now tied two of them up (Vodafone and Spark) leaving only the group of Vocus brands - Slingshot, Orcon and Flip (based on recent history with Sky, that deal was never going to happen).

Sky has deliberately turned the mobile market into a loss leading battleground which suggests mobile is a key play for this new entrant. That would rule Fetch TV out as they're tied to a set top box. Amazon Prime does mobile but it's not really their unique selling point.

A time-poor geek is hardly a geek at all

It's turning into a cannibalism anyway. How many different offerings of the same platform do you need? If Sky is planning on bringing an app into what is already a crowded selection of subscriptions it just gets more confusing.

I want my sport, preferred via an app at 1080p minimum, I'll pay, but not for some choppy SD/720p nonsense.
