steve98: I see no future for Lightbox. It’s the “Telecom Music Store” of the video streaming world. As a consumer I’d rather it didn’t exist so that the few decent shows they do have would be on Netflix instead. In short, I wish it a swift and painless death for the greater good.
Ok, so what you are saying is you want a monopoly? If you watch GoT, lets also move that to Netflix?

steve98: Netflix do not set their prices based on local conditions. I believe the existence of Lightbox is largely irrelevant at the moment and is having zero influence on any kind of competition.
Fair points. I wasnt aware that LB had no exclusive content, and that you can access all their content on other services.

it does have unique content.
Something to be aware of when discussing lightbox, is it's assumed that nobody cares for it.
However, Your simply not the userbase demographic.

Lightbox does have exclusive content, a lot which Netflix gets a few months later, and they show it at better quality. I.e Vikings when first came out. Last I looked Netflix still has S01 up, where Lightbox has dropped the older seasons.
I haven’t seen the Americans on Netflix at all, saw S05 Lightbox. Sky doesn’t have it on Neon so Spark maybe only ones with streaming rights.
Probably by zero influence on competition is referring to that at moment someone is unlikely to give up a Netflix sub because they have Lightbox, so in effect it is having no effect on Netflix subs.
Exactly my point, that you three state. Off course LB has exclusives, as does everyone. Master Steve needs educating.

Not letting him off that easily. No competition means no competition. There is competition between all these SVOD providers.

Thats correct. Some here feel as its free to some, thats its not "real" It is real. Less content than Netflix but most of it isn't 5 centuries old either

My point was - and is - that Lightbox isn’t what’s keeping Netflix’s prices down. If it didn’t exist, Netflix would have the shows they lost to LB, and wouldn’t cost any more as their price is more or less globally set. All LB does in the local market is make the Netflix catalogue a teeny bit smaller! If you (the consumer) want those extra shows, you have to also subscribe to LB! It’s an anomaly, but in this specific instance the presence of competition is actually worse for the consumer, by the price of a LB sub!
Disagree. Its not LB vs NF. There are around 6 SVOD players, Disney and Apple to come. If LB ceased, NF or any of the others would pick up the titles, although NF's catalogue is a few exclusives, the rest is old, so probably they would not get them anyway, another will.
People wanted competition they got it, you now have many SVOD to choose from, its competition. Each new player, and Disney is big, and Apple has locked in some big names such as JJ Abrams. Unsure what your issue with LB is, its just one of many.

Please do point out where I said that Lightbox has no exclusive content!
When you say "I believe the existence of Lightbox is largely irrelevant at the moment and is having zero influence on any kind of competition." What other conclusion is there?

My conclusion was that if a SVOD provider had nothing special to offer and has zero influence on competition and are largely irrelevant, then in todays world of commerce they have no enticements and in the SVOD space. thats exclusives.
