Handsomedan:

I dare say this would be rebranding for the sake of avoiding confusion with Amazon Prime TV.

Yes, whenever I see or hear of something being on "Prime" I assume Amazon Prime.

This rebrand makes sense IMO and potential way to upsell sky . Prime was a weird brand name and as someone said above, easily confused with Amazon Prime.

I think it was from the days when Prime was an offshot of the Australian channel and had absolutely nothing to do with Sky here, until they bought it in 2005 but left the inherited name as is (until now).

Never going to stop thinking its some golfing tournament...

Havent watched Prime for a while, but heres hoping they do something to improve the quality of FTA programming in NZ, but dreams are free.

It does sound like the local Golf Tournament, doesn't it? "Welcome to the Sky Open. Teeing off first is..."

They might have been better off calling it "Open Sky".

The first programme I saw with the new logo in the corner I actually thought was a promo counting down to a tennis cup like they do for weeks leading up to the Olympics.

What is the new channel like? I haven't watched more than a few minutes of it. Is it basically just Prime rebadged with the same programming as before?

Basically yes at this stage, though there appears to be slightly more emphasis on sport, though that may be simply because the Rugby World Cup is imminent.

The press release says "Viewers who prefer to stream or watch on demand will be able to watch Sky Open live and catch up with programmes on demand via Sky Go, for free."

I've tried to register for ondemand Sky Go but I never can complete the process. Told by the Help centre I have to be a Sky subscriber.

The way it was worded I thought the same. Just tried to catch up with Yellowstone..
Nope

On deeper digging in the how can I watch for free it does infact suggest Freeview first. Err

. How can I watch Sky Open?
A. Sky Open is available on Freeview channel 15, Sky channel 4, and can be streamed free via Sky Go on web or the app.

I’m not a Sky customer, how do I set up a Sky Go account?
A. Anyone can watch Sky Open on Sky Go, whether you’re a Sky customer or not. It’s easy! Simply click here for a how-to guide

it appears there is a catch.
Live only. Or old stuff and Not catchup premium content.
