Are there not some freeview channels that are not available on Sky ?

openmedia: Now that TV One and TV 2 are available in HD on Sky you can get all of the HD content on a single PVR.

Except for the constant lack of space, and while it is great to have TVNZ in HD, it puts more pressure on the 160GB My Sky HDi

BTW has anyone else notice the HD quality of TV3 is worse now that TVNZ is in HD, and TVNZ HD is not very HD

DS9: I think they or you have miss understood each other, as you are probably aware ESPN HD already exsists so the only reason I think we do not have it is SkyTV have no space left. Once D3 goes up and as we believe all HD will migrate to it we should get Discovery HD, Nat. Geographic HD and ESPN HD. I hope we get Prime HD,BBC HD and The Box HD as well.

You miss the bit about getting these channels on the satellite in the first place. In respect to Foxtel these channels come into Australia over fibre running at around 45 Mbps per stream. Sky don't have these fibre pipes so can't receive it in the first place to put it on satellite.

Hi very true, though I am sure that these channels can be piped direct from Australia and the Southern Cross cable according to Telecom has plenty of space, Since we already get a lot of channels that originate from Australia I cannot see this as a issue, apart from BBC HD and ESPN HD I think it is a given that we will get Discovery and Nat. Geo HD. Since this was a wish list topic I want the previous channels also.

I aim to misbehave.

I agree but I want more HD and living here the cable is the only way to get it, unless they pay even higher sat. transfer costs.

We don't watch free to air off Sky due to terrible programing, but have had a few looks over the last couple of days and would have to agree, the HD programs look horrible, the picture has not improved much at all on the HD programs, eg TV One news, compared to the Sky HD progams.

TV One News isn't in HD, it is upscalled from SD

Well it looks nearly the same as TV3 news and that's supposed to be HD when you switch between the two, I don't rely on EPG as it's unreliable.

their explanation about ESPN HD is bollocks, they could in theory take the same feed as Australia use, as they do with the SD feed. Like has been stated, I wonder if it's down to running out of space on D1, which will hopefully be resolved by D3 coming later this year (I see it's been pushed back again)

my wishlist (in priority)
* ESPN HD
* remote record
* Sky Sport Extra (an overlap channel so they can play more live stuff, when all 3 sports channels are full)
* Proper red button functionality (Sky News Active + Sky Sport Active etc). I'd really like to be able to access news on demand like one can in Australia and the UK.
* More channels in widescreen
* Eursport Asia Pacific (offered by SelectTV in Australia)
* Proper 5.1 sountrack for US sporting events such as NASCAR

They use C1 for foxtel HD http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/foxtel.html so we cannot just pick up a the Foxtel feed of theirs at the moment. As I and others have stated, there is no more room on D1 so I do not know what is "bollocks". Yes they could use the same ESPN HD feed as stated before but SkyTV has no way to rebroadcast it.

The move to HD across the world is very expensive. Each HD truck costs around $25 million US and the move for broadcasters to HD will take some time. We hope you can appreciate that not all events we purchase are available to us in High Definition.

We continue to upgrade our systems and source programmes and sporting events in HD where possible, however please note this is a transitional process; furthermore we can only broadcast pictures in HD that are offered to us in HD by our host broadcaster.

We understand television viewing is personal and subjective and although we cannot please everyone, we certainly do try.

that's more my point. surely however Foxtel get this from the USA or wherever the source originates could also be passed on to Sky NZ via some sort of uplink on an Optus bird? As you alluded to though, it's more due to the lack of free space on D1 at present.

The cost of an HD truck etc etc is not a reason as to why Sky NZ don't show ESPN HD, as discussed the feed of this is already available to Australian audiences, so no problem with the availability of HD content from that standpoint. However this point is perhaps a valid one when it comes to what other content Sky can source in HD (eg NHL etc). To me that looked more like a copy and paste job to sort of answer the question.

I really hope D3 offers some hope in this regard.
