With MySky HDi I can use whatever ISP I want. TIVO is Xtra locked which also means you have to have a phone line.

I currently use MySky and Telstra Cable with no phone line. Best internet and best TV in my opinion.

clevedon: The winner still is MySky HDi for us, can't remember the last time we watched anything off any of the FTA channels avaliable on Sky, other than TV3 news. You can have all the features in the world in a PVR but if the programming is crud in, it is still crud out no matter when, where or how you watch it The best HD live sport, HD movies with no ad breaks, world news and documentaries is mostly what we watch and even if Sky was double the price, we would still have it.

i was the complete opposite of this when i had sky. i was finding about 95% of what i was watching was on the fta channels. the only time i watched a sky channel was for sports and my wife watched the living channel occasionally.
best thing i ever did was ditch sky and buy a freeview hd receiver. also quite nice to save $80 a month ;)

The reason I asked, was that when we got MySky1 three and half years or so ago - it changed nearly everything that we watched and when we watched it. MySky's PVR means about the only thing we ever watch live is the All Blacks, and adverts do not get a shoe in in our house. We purchased a DVD recorder just before we got MySky and never used it again after getting the PVR.

you are in a minority - the vast majority of shows watched by those with Mysky are on FTA channels.

For me, Mysky is going as soon as TiVo launches. I looked through my recordings the other day and found that almost every single thing I had recorded was from a FTA channel. At that point I ditched movies and HD ticket. I was paying over $100/month and I now still pay $70/month for basic+sports+mysky.

If I get a TiVo box then I will only pay $30/month (for two years then nothing after that) and still watch all the same shows I did before via an arguably better PVR. The only exception being sports. I really only watch rugby anyway, and most of the games are shown with delayed coverage which I can record through TiVo. Saving myself $40/month is pretty sweet.

Minority maybe - never liked to be part of the big crowd anyway. I'm not saying anyones viewing tastes are better than others, but that's what we watch - we only watch Sky programming and not FTA, can't stand it.

Sky costs what it costs, the wife handles the bills. We've got two HDi boxes and the second one only gets used on weekends in the HT/Gamesroom, suits us mighty fine.

I like the idea of Tivo, use to have Sky but gave it up as I didn't like the idea of paying for TV. Also it seems to me that Sky does very little for the promotion of nz television. The vast majority of shows excluding NZ sport are all imported.

I applaud the effort that TVNZ and TV3 make to supporting NZ produced television. I know what I would rather support.

Hi Geeks. This is my first GeekZone post.

I'm just finishing off a new house and am all pre pre wired for mysky but have a real objection to the level of SKY subscriptions. Over $90/month for MySkyHDMi if I incl the Sports channels which is the only reason I want Sky. What I'd like tohave is Tivo for my recording and programme management and just get basic Sky for Sports. (I'm changing over from UHF SKY so have a 1 year $31/month sub for basic SKY + SkySports ) .... but I have a question which I can't get an answer to. If I have basic Sky and Tivo is there a way of recording Sky programmes on my Tivo?

I love what I read about Tivo, and being able to download movies is a real boon ... but if it can't record SKY Programmes (with a seperate SKY decoder of course) then I can see that will be a real stumbling block for them with many potential TIVO buyers.

I think I'll go for MySky as an add on to my UHF to Digital upgrade package and then review how much we are actually recording Sky over the first year. I suspect the kids will get over the Sky Multi Channel novelty pretty quick and we will end up with watching 99% Freeview with few rugby games a month on Sky.

i am also in the minority as i never watch anything of FTA , i get Mysky/hd for sports, and i dont watch rugby, its mainly for the league and american sports, if i want to watch the programs that are on FTA then i watch them streamed of the internet , months, and sometime years before they are shown here , i consider the money spent worth it, at roughly $17.00 a week thats less than some people spend on cigarettes and coffee in a week.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I don't see it being an issue at all. If you want Sky and want a PVR then your best option is a MySky box.

Absolutely - If cost is no object! If you could get a Sky Decoder to run through Tivo then you would have all the benefits of MySky without the addtional subscription and with the Tivo benefits of movie downloads etc.

I'd love to have Tivo but if it can't record Sky programmes then it is no good for me, but having to pay $90+/month for MySky with one sports channel seems absorbadent to me.

My thinking at moment but see when it comes out, is I mainly watch about 10 movies a month sky and everything else is recorded off freeview channels, current exception Dexter.

Others in house pay multi room so HD ticket costs me nothing.

10 movies on Tivo around $50 in SD and dobly 5.1.

Same number movies on sky (Don't care they're older ones) around $70 a month and most in HD, also can watch more if wish, and get bigger choice of channels even if they are ad infested.

Also if sky box breaks down not my expense, where Tivo would be my expense if outside warranty.

I paid for sky box $600, so paying no extra monthly fee. Even though paid 600 if thought could do better would quit sky.

At moment sky winning with me. If was going to purchase freeview PVR then Tivo probably way to go if have broadband for EPG.
