The reality is that most people who care are members of this forum.
It would be interesting to know the percentage of people with MySky HDi who pay the extra $10 a month for the HD ticket - I reckon it is probably less than 50%

If you pay for movies and sports why wouldn't you have the HD ticket - that's one of the main reasons we got it. Price of a cup of coffee once a week - big deal.

Sky released the figures a few months ago. I don't have them handy but off the top of my head it was something like 20% of MySkyHDi owners.

I think plenty of us who realise the benefits of HD and can't go without it fail to remember that for every one of us there are probably 9 other people who don't see anything wrong with 4:3 analogue TV in fatovision. HD to them simply isn't a priority.

There are even some who still use the RF connection on their older sky boxes with LCD tv's and leave it on fattovision because of the pillarboxing of 4:3 stuff.

At least mysky made it easy to change between crop and letterbox modes, not had a play with a HDi on a 4:3 tv to know how that handles it, but the old mysky is so much better than the old boxes when you have a 4:3 tv.

I don't have HD and I don't use composite, but I do use s-video instead of component video (with small silver box). Reason being when using component video my full HD TV shows the picture as the box produces it, red tint to the left of pixels and green tint to the right of pixels (or something like that, been a while). When I use s-video my TV has to reconstruct the colours so I don't get the tints any more.

Still want to try out composite video, it might actually smooth out the picture a bit.

Yeah, on component on mums samsung it really shows how bad the low resolution and mpeg subsampling of the colours on some channels is. It seems the pal decoder does something to sharpen up the colour edges somewhat which removes the halo from around people on a blue background, but it adds other problems where coulours seem to not move on peoples heads when they are talking.

There seems to be alot of differences between TV's. I looked at a mid range Sony TV using a recording of the History channel and it was really blocky, when I looked at the same program on the Pioneer I ended up with it goes gives a smooth picture every time.

The extra money spent getting the higher speced TV's proably makes little difference watching HD content but makes a huge difference on poor quality channels (sort of on task as we are discussing low resolution channels)

Plasma's give a softer picture and IMHO are still far superior to any LCD or LED TV on the market.

IMHO SD also does look slightly better on an older 720p panel rather than a full HD panel simply because less scaling is required.

i was in aussie a few months ago visiting family, they have austar and there is a much wider selection of channels than what nz has on sky
