I care and I know lots of others who care also. It's a major sporting event, one of the biggest in the world. It should be in HD.

I bet the Superbowl would attract more viewers than the lawn bowls that was shown in HD the other day. SKY are just cheap asses.

Very disappointing the SB isn't in HD. Lots of regular season games in HD and the game's showcase isn't? Someone in Sky has it very wrong.

I would bet against more people watching Superbowl than Lawn bowls here in NZ. If it was worth it for Sky, they would be showing it. I know of no one personally that watches, talks about or is even interested about NFL. I am not a fan of Lawn bowls either, far from it, but it is a fairly large sport in NZ, not many big or small towns in NZ that don't have a Bowling Club. So - no I don't think it is BS them not showing it in HD.

Give us American sports fans a break we have to put up with wall to wall soccer (no wander dumb brits riot all the time they bored out of their tiny goards) and as for cricket five days and no result pleease!!

I beg to differ. It probably costs Sky practically nothing to show lawn bowls in HD hence the reason they do it. Whilst lawn bowls may be more popular in NZ the majority of those that are interested in lawn bowls would probably a) not own Sky or b) not care whether it was in HD or not (I'm generalising due to age here). Everyone I know would choose to watch the SB over the lawn bowls.

It all comes down to cost, not care. It's costs too much so Sky don't care. The SB is the most watched event on the US calendar, I realise we're not the US but for an event of this size I think it should be in HD.

Sky legally can't show the Superbowl in HD i think. ESPN ahs the rights as host boradcasters of the superbowl so they probably want it on the ESPN channel only in NZ. Unfortunately ESPN isn't in HD yet in NZ so were stuck with crappy SD.

As for the popilarity of the sport. It is quite popular. Not as popular as the EPL soccer but has a similar cult like following. I know a lot of people who support a team. Sky buys rights to baseball too but I bet that has an even smaller following.

Also is anyone going to watch the Winter Olympics? I'll watch it 'cos its a big event, but I don't care at all about the sports. The same with the Superbowl for some people. Most wont ever watch a NFL game usually but because its a huge event people are likely to tune in just because of the occasion.

correct, I asked Sky about this the other day. As ESPN own the rights for NZ, Sky can't show the Superbowl live. Very annoying, but that's how it is.

We were lucky to get the NFC stuff at all, as ESPN didn't own the rights, Sky got them and showed the games in HD (either via the NFL or the broadcasters themselves)

Australia appears also to have ESPN in HD as well.

i doubt ESPN have exclusive rights to broadcast, considering that it's shown on 3 channels in australia

Same here - totally agree with this. Have been watching the Oz tennis and US and Michael Hill's golf recently and mainly only because they look so fantastic in HD. Wouldn't normally bother.

@Sphyre - Personal attacks are not welcome here.
Also, it was said that ESPN has the rights to New Zealand. Australia is not part of New Zealand and the rights may be different over there, and money talks. So the other networks can still may to get the right to broadcast off espn if they want.
