I'm 99% sure the 17 series cards won't work at all in a Dreambox. They simply don't work well with PC based solutions either which is why people try and get 45 series cards.
Hi a 17xxx card can work on PC based application, but in my experience is not the ideal situation.
I no longer have a 17xxx card as I have upgraded to my sky HDI - 45xxx card.
My set up was windows XP with a Jaycar Smart card reader ( KC5361 ) and NDSCAM0.0.0.4 or NDSCAM0.0.0.5 these are the only two versions I could get to work - but there is a slight problem with this setup which has not been resolved - a Glitch every 10 sec when decoding encrypted channels which can get very annoying.
Of course DVB-s PCI tuner card and ProgDVB / DVBDream
No driver is required for the Jaycar as it uses the serial port of your PC.
As far as I know ( and I tried many solutions ) there is no way I could used the 17xxx card with a card sharing software on the PC I could read an ATR but it would INIT card as CAID 0900 ( this card needs INIT CAID 0969 ), Also could not find any solution to using this card directly in a Dreambox.
So there are really only 2 solutions
Get the required hardware ( PC ) and setup a HTPC ( remember the 10 sec glitch )
or
Ring up sky and arrange for a My Sky HDi install ( $15 extra month )
