So moral of the story is that a more expensive and high quality DVD Player is not always best.

Well, until our trusted, very expensive (in its day), high quality Sony DVD player dies we won't be signing back up to Fatso. :(

Thanks everyone for your feedback - it's good to know i'm not the only one wrestling with unplayable discs, but it's also really useful to hear what Rob has to say about the matter. Still, I was a member of LoveFilm, a similar company back in the UK, and never had any problems playing their rental discs on my laptop - I wonder what they did differently.
