I don't need a new decoder, I just want the ability to use the USB port on the front of the box (behind the MySkyHDI logo where the sky card goes) to watch photos, videos, and listen to music.

Imagine having a VLC Player like codec range on a MySkyHDI box. Oh the dream lives on...

Hey, Would really like to see a better EPG. Sometimes nothing comes up at all, other times we get the currently unavailable message.

Also, this is a rather silly suggestion, but could we have the option of getting the decoder in black. The silver one sticks out like a sore thumb in our setup.

It is kind of funny (but sad) watching people dream over what they'd like to do to pimp their 1980 Toyota Corollas ;-)

I hear what everyone is saying about the ethernet and eSata ports on the MySKY HDi. I wouldn't go quite as far as calling it a 1980 Corolla (though the comparison had crossed my mind too), but there is definitely an issue in the difference between the implied promises of the hardware and the abilities of the software, especially the OpenTV middleware. Given that there is presumably going to be a step up to a new middleware for SKY some time in the next 18-24 months, probably to a Linux kernel which will come with ethernet, USB, DLNA etc pre-enabled, it is a big issue for SKY to face whether it can afford to do all the work to enable home (& wider) networking on the current platform, espcially as dev costs should be so much lower on a modern OS.

I echo much of what has been said above
and my own would be ...

A Blu-ray player on board - be nice to get rid of anther piece of the equipment stack...
( pauses to think of the possibilities of Sky sanctioned peer-peer  file sharing)
Ability to store/incorporate  personal content on a large/attached  HDD
A separate archive for those recordings  that you want to re-watch but not have to work through every time  you want to watch simple time delayed recordings

Volume control on the digital audio output ( lose another remote) or a programmable remote control

An optional  wake-up function that turns on the TV etc so i wake up for those EPL games while sleeping on the sofa

Ability to fast-forward/jump the number of entered minutes on recordings

I like that a lot. A lot of thinking about future boxes comes from the viewpoint that doing this is hard (and it was). You've kind of bolied it down to the essentials.

A Blu-Ray/DVD player and P2P sharing aren't inconceivable. The player adds substantially to the cost of a decoder and is going to be a major cause of decoder failure. (I think SKY has seen this already with HDDs). This makes adding one to a decoder a major risk. In terms of P2P, if your CA & DRM is up to scratch, why wouldn't SKY want its content moved around? The answer is probably the inertia of the strength and simplicity of the current DTH model ("if you want to see it agin we will repeat it") versus the cost and risk of implementing P2P replication.

Can't argue with that. Better storage and better organisation have to be a nextgen driver.

Volume control on the digital audio output ( lose another remote) or a programmable remote control

That's a good one. There seems to be such a good argument for full-volume digital output, but it is annoying, as you say. If it can be varied, then maybe internal control should be an option.

An optional  wake-up function that turns on the TV etc so i wake up for those EPL games while sleeping on the sofa. Ability to fast-forward/jump the number of entered minutes on recordings

At the moment you can stop the recording, hit play again, then increment the play point by X minutes, but this is clumsy. There's definitely a case for better playback control, but it does verge on the dreaded "30s ad skip button".

sleepy: More Storage - Release the half of the hard drive you protect

Getting SKY to release all the space is hard because killing the space for "on demand" pre-recorded movies locks SKY out of making those sales. Making the space allocation flexible is difficult (currently) because of both the inflexible partitioning routines and the difficulty of handling existing recordings (i.e. needing to delete what's there to change the allocation).

Ability to review Series link info

At present the only series link info that SKY can carry is in one number per programme. This makes it really hard to introduce subtlety, e.g. you can link all the games in the soccer world cup, but not also link only the NZ games. You're right - this needs fixing. Also the box needs to be less opaque about its intentions, as you say.
Improved EPG often cant find programs for next weekend
Yep.
