Reciprocity: Funny.... I got the same email.
I wonder if this is a case of a 'stealth launch'? They're still in Beta, but now they can say that they made it available to people who pre-registered before the end of the year.
Now they can see if their product will cope with 'real world' load, and claim 'just testing!' if it isn't right.
FWIW, I tried to look at two shows... the first had major audio sync issues, the second one (despite being one of the main links on the homepage) kept failing with "the content is currently unavailable"... (after playing the rating clip, and /surprise/ an ad for another Sky product...) I don't think I'll bother with it again.
Who is the CTO there? Is it still the same person who was CTO when Sky By Broadband went in? (and out again very quickly) Why do they keep letting such poor quality product out the door? Do they even care? Why do they let Sky's communication people continue to make public promises that they have no idea whether or not they can deliver on? ...come to think of it, do Sky even have a CTO or any technology leadership function?
pjamieson: I am registered for iSky but didn't get an email. What is the address for the test site?

This is the problem with them having a monopoly on content. Imagine how much of a waste the UFB will be if Sky are the only ones who can supply the content and their services are this crap. They need competition to make sure they actually release decent products.....
Sixth Labour Government - "Vision without Execution is just Hallucination"
There has been competition for some time. TVNZ pioneered NZ online content (and did a fine job compared to the Beeb in development and launch) and its online coverage of the Beijing Olympics was outstanding. TVNZ have delivery to both PC and games console which makes it light years ahead of Sky in terms of development.
And you can add Mediaworks as another to deliver streaming content in competition to Sky.
You sound like a John Drinnan spokesperson that fails to acknowledge the development and efforts of existing players in NZ. Sky is NOT the only game in town.

tdgeek: [I think Zeon was referring to Sky having a monopoly on content which they certainly do when it comes to sports.]
This is not a monopoly
TV1 2 and 3 have Sports. TV Networks buy the content as Sky does. So if Sky has the sports you want then I guess you can only blame/take that up with the other providers who chose not to buy it.

ockel: Presuming market failure in an open and efficient market is something for Ministry of Culture and Heritage to waste its time on rather than via throwaway comments without understanding the market structure and operation.
