Fix up the aspect ratios/screen sizes on Living and Food! Surely not that difficult. Really annoying when we watch that and there is a big black border around the whole picture (all 4 sides).

Living and Food are a separate company to Sky, Sky just carry them, as for the AR issues this was fixed a couple of months back, but it seems stuff they ingested before then in the wrong AR cannot be fixed and the source tapes long since returned to sender, so till that material is no longer for showing it will be in postage stamp format.

There was some talk a while ago that Sky had an external hard drive in the works but nothing has come of it....

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

What size is the hard drive? I saw a black MySky box at a lab which was labelled 500GB. (Don't think I can name the lab.)

You can never have enough Volvos!

dontpanic42: I would almost consider getting sky if they had the SyFy channel.

+1.  But I don't think you will see a SyFy channel anytime soon considering that TV3 just dumped "The Event" to a late nite dead spot next  week  before it finished.  NZ networks don't see ScFi fans as worthwhile viewers..

NZ Networks don't get enough ratings to justify the programming.

It *could* happen. Im sure they could do enable it in firmware on the basis that the files were strongly encrypted and only playable on the box that recorded them - should eliminate any rights-holder worries about people doing HD video extraction, and puts the whole cost/burden of the hardware upgrade on the user (which is nice for them). Being able to whack on a 1-2TB external USB drive would massively increase the usefulness of the box.

Failing that, at least let people who don't have any interest in video on demand disable it in options, and reclaim the huge chunk of the drive that the system keeps permanently reserved for VoD for their own recordings instead.

The patheticly small amount of usuable drive space (esp if you start recording HD material) is one of the key reasons I haven't gone the MySky route yet. The other main one is the inability to transfer material off - though I am currently sourcing the key bits of hardware needed for this (which I initially need for something else).

As it is recorded encrypted, I dont see why not. Sure some people may take the drive and try to decrypt it, but there is still the issue that its sent over the air encrypted and people can use a cam on a PC to get it decoded anyway.

Got an email update from Tony O'brien from Sky TV about ESPN

"In answer to your original question, the two ESPN widescreen/HD channels that available in Australia are undergoing a reconfiguration.
Once this has been completed and some technical issues have been resolved, we will be in a position to update you on the delivery schedule for New Zealand."
 Thank you for your patience.

 Tony"

So maybe (just maybe) 2011 could be a better year for ESPN in NZ

Hoo-ray. Last time I looked at ESPN it reminded me of a bootleg VCD from the late 90's for picture quality.

DS9: I would like the following:

14 day epg
more HD
external HDD

and also syfy please!

You get the 1st 3 with Tivo with the home netwroking,  and don't pay any subscription, so sky should provide them. I don't  use them or ever intend to, so don't care, however if they had some competition I am sure they would lift their offerings.

by more HD I mean - Sky Movies extra HD, Discovery HD, Nat. Geo. HD, Prime HD

They would probably charge more, as it is something they could charge more for. Now that I think about it, don't sky subscribers have to pay extra for HD anyway, so those channels should really be in HD if you are paying extra for HD. HD content would probably cost them more to buy over SD content, so if the HD content is avaliable, HD subscribers should be demanding it.

Wonder if will still be a  part of the basic package or will it migrate to the Sports package so they will screw you again..

ESPN is not part of the basic package AFAIK
