Kyanar:
B1GGLZ: If they won't play ball then quote the CGA. It must be fit for the purpose i.e. component or HDMI to your modern TV..

I don't think the CGA applies to the hardware which they loan you.  It's theirs after all.  You could claim the service isn't fit for the purpose you intended, but you'd then have to prove that either you expressly told them that you intended to watch on a big screen TV without quality loss, or that they told you this was possible.

Yeah you'll struggle to fight for image quality angles when you don't subscribe to their HD video service.

At the end of the day you're trying to take their crap SD service and pretend it looks stunning via an alternative display method.  Where this applies

John2010:
DarkCypher: Is it common practice for new sky installs to be installed with the old black box?

The thing is nothing but slow and sluggish and doesn't seem to support Scart >> component.

If it is?the black?Motorola DTH335 then it will do component from SCART (the one marked "TV") if it has recent firmware in it, which it should, it just likely has not been set up for it. If you don't need HD then there is no real problem with this box compared to other SD. To activate?component you have to enter the?menus (righthandmost button on front), select spanner icon and then Advanced Setup via your PIN.

nope it's the Pace DSR600.

For non-MySky go s-video if you have an HD LCD. The components will each be offset slightly (required for CRT) unless you have a fancy LCD TV which corrects this. S-video by nature removes this offset so the pixels match up. You loose a small amount of sharpness, but gain colour quality (best example is in the menu you get artifacts with component video).

strangely after being a Sky customer for years they ring me up and offer to replace my old black box to Mysky (not HD) at no cost or increased rentals, still skeptical but watching the monthly cost.

I'm also skeptical. Get you to use MySky for a while until the hard drive fails, then tell you there is no more MySky boxes available and you need to go back to an old one so instead you pay the $600 to get HDi because you got used to having a PVR?
