SheriffNZ: Mine was pretty good, during the last 10 it paused and became pixelated every so often. Changing the Fan pass channel seemed to help.

Does anyone know if Prime put ads in their coverage as expected?

No ad interruptions at during Prime coverage.

That might be a goer for next week then. Unlikely to get buffering issues on live TV! Funnily enough, my issues started when my daughter stopped watching Netflix...

Perfect Fanpass experience here... solid 720 with no pauses, skips, buffers or (apparent) bitrate changes from before the Haka until after the final whistle...

Although it's taken Sky quite a few attempts to get online live sports streaming working, they seem to have cracked it now.

One little caveat though - this game was available (basically) live on FTA at the same time, so not sure how many people tuned in to watch on Fanpass. From what I can see, there was almost no bump on our Akamai servers.

Cheers - N

I watched the last half of the Wales South Africa game on prime and there was ads probably every 8 to 10 minutes, so I went with fanpass, which on my RBI wireless worked great although my data took a 2gb hit and that was playing it at 540, but Im sure not complaining thanks for the promo code.

Another interesting point: how long does a week last? Is it seven days (eg Sunday-Saturday) or 7 * 24 hours? If it's the latter, we be able to watch next weeks semi on a pass purchased after the SA v Wales game this am.

I somehow imagine that it's days...

I believe it is activated from the time it is purchased (so a weekly pass is 168 hours), so yes if you purchased after the SA vs Wales game then you should be able to catch the AB's semi next week.

Because its a product for NZ if it was the first option then I don't think Sky would get away with it.

Much to my surprise the Prime coverage had no ads except at half time.  Yes it was only SD, but no complaints at all.  Much better than expected, cheers Sky.

but yet their paid premium services (Sky, Sky Go and FanPass) had ads after the Haka and it really is quite annoying.

The lack of ads on Prime was likely the special rules for Sunday mornings, especially given the comments that SA vs Wales did have them.

😁😁

Yes I think the no ad effect runs from 6am-12pm

So there will be ads next week and ads during the second half of the final then.

ITV does the ads after haka and before kick off as well, which it would be nice if they and the others didn't do, but to me its a small price to have the rest of the game play uninterrupted, the ads do play the bills. I did notice though on fanpass most of the ads seem to be promotions for their own programmes which seems a waste of that airtime.

Ever watch something on ESPN?  Its only promo's for their own programmes - all the time.  Not a waste of airtime as its self promotion.  Watch an NFL or MLB game with its constant interruptions and you'll be to recite in your sleep the upcoming MLB playoff games, next weekends NFL games, the upcoming NBA season etc etc.  The best thing a standalone sports channel can do is promote itself.  No advertiser is going to get enough reach to justify paying spots for product promos.  Just like the best thing a FTA channel can do is promote its upcoming shows (hence the 2+ show promos in most adbreaks.  Let the audience know what they can watch to generate the viewers to garner ad dollars.  The greater the reach/impact, the higher the price for a 30s ad.  With a sports channel, the great the viewership the greater the price/subscriber/month fee they can charge the broadcaster.

I was pretty impressed with the quality of the streaming. I would say it's as good as Sky's satellite feed. This screen cap is a photo of my 100" projector screen, 1080p projector etc fed by an Apple TV, from an iPad doing Airplay from the FanPass app. It's nothing like a real 1080p (or even 720p) picture but reasonable for NZ broadcast.

Heres a working kodi addon (based on the NHL gamecenter addon https://github.com/timewasted/xbmc-nhl-gamecenter), it basiclly just uses the ipad stream

Requires a valid fanpass account

I havn't used fanpass again but some one might find it useful should work on all platforms ie raspberry pi etc
