freitasm: The only update I know of is the media player to play photos and music from an attached device. The attached USB memory key (not an HDD) is used for the live TV pause feature.
how come USB stick and not HDD?

That's how it is. I have no idea - perhaps because of speed to write, or low power...

Igloo boss quits for Australia:

"Igloo boss Chaz Savage has resigned from the fledgling pay-TV venture, and is taking up a role with Telstra in Australia, according to a spokesperson for Igloo.

Savage, who has been the general manager at Igloo since its inception 18 months ago, will report as the general manager of T-Box, Telstra's set-top box product across the Tasman."

UPDATE on yesterdays IGLOO install. Am most pleased with general SD quality. As HDinsider says " On the plus side they're MPEG4/H264 and look way better than on satellite."
I agree, quality looks much better than SKY i have seen.
We are viewing on a 26" Samsung LCD 720p HD ready TV via a HDMI cable.
My 85 year old mother commented that " things look sharper" on some channels.
I set up a 4Gig Lexar flash drive to run "live pause" today. No issues with formatting, works perfectly.
So far am a happy IGLOO user :)

It's not an "issue". It works as designed. Whoever designed that should be let go from the job.

Now, now. It's just the matter of pressing the ON button. IGLOO doesn't have a PVR function, so standby at 4am wouldn't kill that.

What does it matter if it goes on standby at 4am that would make you not buy it?

For me is a small inconvenience: I use a HDMI switch that automatically switch to an alternative source when the source in use is powered off. As it is now IGLOO doesn't completely power off, so the switch never changes to the alternative source (our HTPC), requiring a manual switch. That's my reason.

What is yours?

Its not an issue. This IGLOO box is for my 85 year old mother's bedroom TV. She is of an age that she switches things off after she has finished with them. The power on/off time is only a few seconds so its not inconveniant.

Is there any alternative to Igloo besides Sky? I got the box (won mine so didn't pay a cent) in the hope that they would be showing all the NRL games, Super 15 etc. Based on last year that didn't happen and now with the boss leaving it sounds like it could just be left to die?

Anyway is there any alternatives out there? I don't mind paying for a subscription/fee wether it be on my TV or computer. I just want to watch some Rugby/League when its on.

Thanks

No other option for NRL games unless you are happy with the Prime TV delayed coverage of the Warriors and then catch up via the NRL website. Apart from that Sky is likely to control all the TV rights in NZ although this negotiation is not concluded yet for 2013.
