What is mainstream, is the AppleTV.

Any news on that? I understand (but do not know for sure) that developing for the ATV is by invite only, but have you contacted Apple about getting an invite?

Apple TV is an invite only affair and Apple decides who they tee up for it. We'd love to get on to it.

Maybe we need a campaign to email Apple asking why Lightbox isn't on the AppleTV.

Who has a good email address that might get something done?

We'll add other clients at a steady pace going forward, but none of the players that you've listed are really mainstream in New Zealand and building anything bespoke for them is hard to justify. So, we'll definitely support more big screen options soon enough, but don't hold your breath for a WDTV app.

Saying WDTV isn't mainstream is a big call.
I know a lot of (non technically minded) people who have WDTV devices. I would imagine they are pretty widespread in NZ - especially considering they are sold by mainstream retailers.

Investing in protected video isn't really optional. If you want to distribute premium content, you'll need to live up to the security requirements of the content owners. Otherwise you're not going to be distributing anything. Pretty simple, really.

Your call, I guess. But, to my mind, you don't really have the luxury of drip feeding clients out "at a steady pace going forward". You are already in competition with iPlayer, Hulu and the US version of Netflix. Neon and Netflix launch in NZ next year - and they are both well resourced with solid companies with a lot of expertise and experience dealing with content providers behind them. They have name recognition and can both be counted to put a lot into technology and marketing. For Sky, in particular, this could be life or death.

You have the advantage of an early lead. If you squander that by not investing and ramping up your user base to a critical mass, by all means possible before the competition launches, then quite frankly I suspect you're dead. If you want to survive, you need to hit the ground running and sprint hard.

I'm kind of reminded of TiVo NZ here. They were about the best Freeview recorder on the market when they launched. But they tied themselves to Telecom and, in the minds of many, became (wrongly) associated with being Telecom only. Shades of what you are doing with Samsung. They they didn't get into mainstream retailers, and didn't market well. Which is also a problem you seem to be having. So, despite having the best product, they were overtaken and have essentially quit the market - with big losses for TVNZ etc.

Do it properly, or don't so it at all. If you can't invest sufficiently and quickly enough to pull this off, then quit now. At least that will reduce the likely loss to shareholders.
