ToPGuNZ: Unless you are like me and since starting to use lightlbox we have gone over our 80GB cap for two months now so looks like I will be paying out $10 a month extra for unlimited :)

I'm already on unlimited, and signed up for the 12 month free deal - I just want to be able to start using it before too much more of my 12 months is up!

same here... just waiting for the chromecast support...

Is this support going to be built into the web interface (is that even possible?) or just through the apps? Tried playing Lightbox on Chrome to have a go at casting the tab, but they won't play together any more (keeps asking for silverlight despite it already being installed)

Lightbox on chrome seems to be broken now as it says Silverlight needs to be installed when it already is. Also I have used up all my devices again, as my computer has aging been counted multiple times again, so my device limit has been used up again with a month. These types of problems really turn me off lightbox

I believe Chrome no longer actively supports Silverlight.... The Lightbox help page says...

Users of Google Chrome version 42 may see a "you need to install the latest version of Silverlight" message. Installing the latest version of Silverlight does not fix the issue. To fix this, either visit chrome://flags/#enable-npapi and enable NPAPI plugins, or use an alternate browser.

I don't use Chrome. Tried Firefox last night - wouldn't play anything - then IE. That keeps popping up an message box (behind the current window) asking about displaying mixed content. Once I click that it worked, after a few attempts.

Roll on Chromecast.....

I tried that "fix" after searching for solutions, didn't make any difference unfortunately.

The issue of supported devices has been discussed a lot, chromecast would help definitely, but still so many "left in the dark" so to speak.

I'm another who signed up for the 12 months, but have only watched once because of difficulty getting the display onto the TV

Chrome has disabled NPAPI plugins, which includes among other things Silverlight, Unity Web Player, Java and Google Talk.

For now you can re-enable it by going to chrome://flags/#enable-npapi, but that's going away in September.

We're looking at ways to support Chrome going forward (most likely an HTML5 playback solution), but we'll still need Silverlight to support other browsers. Other services impacted by this (beyond us) are the likes of Amazon Instant Video, BT Sports, Now TV, Sky Go in the UK etc.

To be honest, the protected video streaming options aren't mature at this stage, so pulling the plug on Silverlight is a somewhat premature move by Google.

Don't you need Chrome browser to use chromecast?

If lightbox will no longer work in the chrome browser then where does that leave it?

When I google it everything goes to chrome browser, and searching for firefox says you can ony do it for firefox on android.

No, you don't need a Chrome browser. For example, I have a Samsung phone with the Chromecast application installed. When on the same WiFi as the Chromecast, I can cast and queue up YouTube videos to the Chromecast dongle on the TV. The streaming is direct to the Chromecast i.e. not thru the phone.

Chromecast control can be done via a Chrome browser or via iOS/Android apps.

The playback happens via a dedicated player application. These support Playready/Smooth Streaming, even though Chrome now has no way to do this.

So you could have a situation where you can start a playback on your Chromecast device via Chrome, but not view the content via Chrome, which would be pretty weird.

Only if you want to watch this stuff on your little screen as opposed to a nice, big non-Samsung TV.

True - weird, but not useless by any means.

Google have a lot of control these days over the internet and various standards. Lightbox is also broken on IE, as it now pops up with a security warning about mixed content, as mentioned by another poster above. When you do agree, it often plays videos without any sound.

Thanks for the feedback on IE. What version are you using?

This is a question of Google moving off an established standard - not unlike iOS not supporting Flash. Their suggestion is to use their DRM technology, which isn't widely supported.

It should be the latest version, which on windows 7 is , 11.0.9600.17691 . I first noticed it on windows 10 IE after I couldn't get chrome to work, but it does the same under windows 7 IE 11

Unfortunately  the fix for chrome doesn't work, even after enabling it and   restarting the pc
