@GeorgefromLightbox - can you please just confirm something for me?
Should the DD soundtrack (where available) be available when airplaying to an Apple TV 3 from an iPad? Thus far (since airplaying was restored a few weeks back) we've noticed a lack of DD on shows that I would have assumed would have it (eg Preacher). Not sure if this reflects either I'm incorrect in this assumption that such shows have DD, that DD isn't available via Airplay, or there's something wrong with our set-up, so would appreciate a steer!
If it's not available via airplay, this would be a significant reason for me to not turn my currently gratis Lightbox sub into a paying one - or delay this until I can find the money at some point for an ATV 4!

Good question! We're going to test it tonight and we'll let you know. Again, we have a few thoughts about this ... but we'll test & let you know.
Still testing. Commonality seems to be combination(s) of output & receiver...

I found when my ATV is set to DD output - my Receiver always goes into 5.1 mode but the audio is still only two channel (coming only out of left and right speakers). George are you able to confirm what shows are loaded on the service with 5.1 audio?
Thanks
GeorgefromLightbox:
@Kickass - the (generic) answer is most of the new content from big studios does have 5.1; we don't have a list of content + whether it has a 5.1 stream available. For example, older content & most of the Kids stuff doesn't have 5.1
Hi George. Sorry to be so forthright, but why don't you know? Surely when Lightbox purchases a programme it knows what qualities (HD, 5.1, Stereo, DD) it comes with? It's a bit like buying a car without knowing what size engine it has. I'm surprised that with Outlander, for instance, I'm only getting stereo sound from my PS3 and no indication from my receiver which is stuck firmly on Multichannel sound.
Choose optical out as your PS3s primary audio output (even if you're using HDMI) and it should default to a stereo signal and not DTS or Dolby Digital. This should then allow your receiver to use Dolby Pro Logic (I or II). It's matrixed surround but it should make things better for a multichannel system. Works on my PS4.
rugrat: Light box doesn't do DD 5.1, and the person looking into it from this thread looks like got ordered off it.

Rather disappointing that a year has passed without any change from Lightbox, either to the apps themselves or to their understanding of what their apps can do.
At least Sky openly admit to Neon being short of the odd feature.

They have major internal issues. There's barely a single staff member there from a year ago; and it always was a fairly small team anyway. In particular their technical teams change very frequently, their marketing and management are not so bad but they don't have the technical knowledge. Like this audio thing - they actually don't know what it causing it, there are just theories. They are also very reliant on third party vendors for most aspects of their service from hosting, to platform, to mobile apps, to platform support and obviously the content itself. About the only thing they do in house is their website and even that relies on a lot of external tech and third parties.
Long and short it, Lightbox don't really know what they are doing. There is a lot of shuffling around the internal projects, third party vendors, and the product which mean critical features are getting missed. And a lot of tech debt that needs to be resolved. They do know their product has some pretty significant shortfalls - they just can't/won't do anything about a lot it. But they are trying; case in point this audio issue which LightboxGeorge and team are looking into.
We're still investigating. Thanks for your patience. I've not forgotten you...

Good to know. Well done @GeorgefromLightbox.
Hopefully you guys can get an outcome in this sooner rather than later. 5.1 is definitely a nice to have (and consistent audio for that matter).
