Reach (people spending at least 5 minutes watching content). TVNZ does not have any paying subscribers. Both SVoD platforms (TVNZoD and Heihei) are free, and their channels are all on Freeview.

Audience reach (at least in TV terms) is the number of people who have consumed content (which is 2 million for TVNZ), and generally means at least 5 minutes in that period (per day for TVNZ). The number of kiwis that have the option of watching TVNZ would be closer to four million than two million. The ratings figures are only NZ on Air funded shows, not for all FTA TV.

Perhaps now they can spend some money updating their EPG to correctly reflect programme start and end times. Over the last 4 weeks I've recorded shows which didn't start at the advertised time, or have been lodged as incorrect in length and cut off 5-15 mins before the end of the show.

Free to air channels aren't affected, just the grumpy old man channels like history, knowledge and so on.

Had the same issue, but then it seemed to correct itself. Maddening when binge watching a series.

28,000 subscriber loss reported 2017. There's a trend going on here.

All platforms. From Stuff: "The pay-TV company lost another 57,000 subscribers in the year to June 30 reducing the number to 768,000 across its satellite, Neon and Fanpass services"

"The other advantage we have is the breadth of our content offerings. At any one time SKY has 4,500 programmes on the go contained in 3,000 different contracts. The biggest one is a sports contract, but it still only represents 23% of total sports viewing (which is represented by 791 different contracts), and less than 6% of overall viewing on SKY. And that is after taking out all the free-to-air viewing on the platform."

And another:

"As I write this, SKY has been informed that we were not the highest bidder for the Oscars in 2019."

I imagine Sky get a total of zero new customer if they won the rights to the Oscars (which happens in the afternoon in NZ). The ad revenue would also be minimal. Like with the RWX2019, Sky won't be losing any sleep.

Sky has had the Oscars for years. Whether it gets any new customers - hard to know. But viewership of the Oscars has been declining for the last 4 years.

Some businesses just have a use by date, as they become less relevant. They are still doing pretty well all things considered. But if they want to grow, IMO they need to totally change.
