i quote in verbatim. Whether you like this decision or not, here is what Sky say

"ESPN are exclusive rights holders in NZ for Super Bowl and it would not be in their best interest to allow us to play on SS. We would love to bring it to you in HD and it is just as frustrating for us as it is for you."

As much as I hate Sky for their programming decisions, generally they are very transparent and straight up with *most* of their non copy and paste answers.

Regarding why ESPN HD i got this reply:

"Hi Sean,

It all comes down to cost and bandwidth! There are no plans at this stage to bring in ESPN HD, however these types of decisions are always being reviewed.

that would make sense. Sky's allocation on D1 is pretty much full, so we're stuck with only getting low bandwidth filler channels until Sky finally pulls finger and sorts it out. In the meantime, we continue to line the shareholders pockets with nice dividends

arnies: Alright. got the new Skywatch in the mail today. Searched through to see what options we have to watch the Superbowl.

It seems the biggest one day sporting event in the world, who a lot of NZers are excited about, will NOT be shown in HD.
Instead it will be on ESPN (which has most of sky's NFL coverage). The problem with this is that ESPN here is of terrible quality, non-HD and I don't even think its in widescreen yet.

Sky had bought rights for the Playoffs games to have in HD so i don't see why the superbowl, which is a HUGE event with hundreds of millions of viewers world-wide, should not be.

We get the Australian feed of ESPN. Over in aus ESPN IS HD (hence we get the ESPN HD ads). But Sky in NZ don't want to pay the extra to have another full HD channel. The question is why not? whats the point of buying a new tv, My Sky Hdi etc if programs aren't even shown in widescreen let alone HD?

Anyone else think this is compelte BS?

SKY have successfully negotiated the HD Rights for the Super Bowl in HD and as you will see from the EPG, have scheduled it on SKY Sport 2 on Monday from 1200noon, please pray that the Live golf that precedes the Superbowl doesn't go into a playoff.

Pity they moved SB to a week later. It was handy when it was on the last Sunday in January which equated here in the AK region with AK Anniversary day. Will have to watch the evening replay on Tuesday nit at 5.00 PM.. Oh well, next year a MySky..

It'll probably stay that way as long as the pro bowl is played before the SB which it was this year for the first time. God the pro bowl is dreadful, they should ditch it.
