Correct me if i'm wrong, But isnt the Majority of R&D for Sky Set Top Boxes done by Skys bigger Brother over the Ditch in Aussie ? I was led to believe that Foxtel were the ones that selected and prepared the overall layout/Gui/Options for the MySky and MyskyHdi Receivers ?. Sky Merely got involved with a few boxes to test on there Mux.
When you look at it closely, Why would sky get involved with selecting a Set Top Box, when another Arm of the Murdoch Corporation has allready done the work.
*One thing that i would like the Option of on Skys boxes , is the ability to create your own Favourites Bouquet. The current Layout or Channel order is a total mess. At least by adding this option to the setup, the end user can create there own desired channel layout/listings.
I have my own personal Favourites via my Dream Dm8000, which is setout having each channel in there Rightfull order - Eg Freeview channels 6 and 7 in there right places.
Don't need a new decoder, just let us use the features it already has;
- Enable the USB / eSATA port - To allow for more storage space - Enable the Ethernet port - Allow shareing across an internal network - Stream stored content on other devices around the home WiFi (laptop / iPad etc) and via online to mobiles etc (PS3 / PSP & SE Phone type functionality)
And finally - Get rid of the restrictions on the EPG! Allow dowloading of the EPG to other sources (E.G. Media Centre). It won't make me ditch MySky (want it for the HD) but it will improve my love towards Sky.
Try and become the only set top box that people will need...
Integration with other media on local networks is essential to this, even if it means only streaming media from Microsoft Media Centre or some other mainstream option.
Same logic applies to being able to stream from the Internet directly. TVs are starting to offer the option so why not a 'supposedly' intelligent device.
DLNA compliance would seem like a logical direction as well... either as a client or server or both given the many older TVs plugged into Sky boxes.
Interestingly, the addition of a DVD/Bluray player (not writer) would probably not add a lot to the cost of the unit but would again reduce the number of devices a family needed to have plugged into their TV.
At the moment, the only way to achieve all of this is with a Media PC... but that doesn't decode Sky so there is an opportunity for the Sky decoder to be the one and only device plugged into people's TVs

Some significant improvements could made in software.
Two things stand out - the ability to go back a couple of weeks in the EPG to download programmes that you have missed for one reason or another, and the ability to connect a USB hard drive to expand the recording space available.
Had mine for years now, and i've found it very reliable and easy to use, but power cuts and memory failures (my memory that is) have led to lost recordings.
I know there's an option to extend record time by 20 min.s or so, in case a football game (whatever) goes over time, but I'd like the box to just do that automatically.
I'd like to be able to edit recorded programmes, e.g. delete the tail end of any shows recorded before (or after) what I actually wanted to watch, or to delete ads out of a TV show I might have recorded.
To output two different signals at the same time, so I can watch the football game I recorded overnight via the RF cable I have running to the bedroom while my wife watches the "live" Living Channel in the lounge. Sorry, but I don't want to pay for multiroom...
A category menu on the Planner button, like the one that's on the Guide button, so I can select recorded programmes by category (Sport, Movies, etc.).
Better search options for the on-screen guide (keyword, etc.). Sometimes, even when I'm at home, I'll jump on the skytv.co.nz to look up a program and do the "remote record" thing because it's so much easier then looking through the on-screen guide.
Wireless connectivity.
Can you record something you're watching on OnDemand or Box Office? If not, I want that too.
