Finch: Is there any alternative to Igloo besides Sky? I got the box (won mine so didn't pay a cent) in the hope that they would be showing all the NRL games, Super 15 etc. Based on last year that didn't happen and now with the boss leaving it sounds like it could just be left to die?

Anyway is there any alternatives out there? I don't mind paying for a subscription/fee wether it be on my TV or computer. I just want to watch some Rugby/League when its on.

Thanks

Freeview and go to the pub to watch the games you want with the money you saved from not paying for sky.

Or there are plenty of options to watch low res versions online, not legally though.

For the NRL person, you might not have to worry as the NRL is threatening to give the rights to a Free to Air channel to try and get SKY to pay more. The NRL reckons because SBW has gone back to league SKY should pay an extra million a year for him as well as more because they got more in Australia.

Wouldn't it be funny if the Maori channel bid and got the rights and you only got the league in SD or TV3 got them and they did a channel 9 and inserted advertisements after every try.

Speaking of channel 9 and the increased rights amount, how long before they ask for strategic timeouts or say a 5 minute warning time (like the 2 minute timeout in American Football) to help get more advertising to pay for the rights.

Igloo has now just been losing it's signal - TV2 not too taxing I would have thought. Then I found out how long it takes to reboot a frigen Igloo box, wow.

Are you sure it's not just your reception/aerial system? That would be the normal reason for losing channels.

Yes, I'd look at aerial connections.

settled right down with a reboot. Quick Edit: Also the weather was fine so no wind blowing the outdoor around, and nothing happening at the back of the box. I will monitor it

Igloo have upped the deal to two free months of 11 premium channels when you register your new Igloo box.

My 85 year old mother is turning into an avid user of IGLOO TV. She has the 11 channel pack. She watches between 30 mins and an hour 30m on average every other night, mostly UKTV, National Geographic, BBC Knowledge and BBC World news.

Her one complaint is that the guide displays " No program information available" far too often?

My Granddad has an Igloo, and also mentioned that there is frequently no guide/program information available.

Have not experienced the no information thing with the guide. Two months with registration you say? Maybe I will finally register it. I must admit the EULA seems a bit invasive so I have sort of put it off.

Might pay to check, that deal might be finished.

I had that often with the silver Pace STB, never with MySky.  I suspect it is to annoy people that takes entry level service, "solution" is to switch from Igloo to MySky...

The standard Motorola box also does this. Frequently. It's darn annoying.

I know with the standard sky box's it's 12pm or 1.00pm each day depending if daylight saving, the guide gets wiped out.

It then gets reloaded over next half hour.

If the decoder is picking up a freeview channel direct off sat, then nowdays, no guide info can be loaded until back on sky channel.

Not sure what system igloo uses to do guide with. If it's getting it same as a freeview box shouldn't lose it, but then maybe sky is using their own system.

Emailed IGLOO support today regarding the " no guide info"

Rather surprisingly received a phone call from customer support tonight with a "fix"

Do this... menu/settings/diagnostics/reboot.... navigate to reboot OK

Wait for the set top box to reboot

THEN sit on an IGLOO channel for up to 30 mins for the guide to update

I left the TV on, on UKTV for 30 mins and all was good, guide completely updated and working properly.

In future the mere act of sitting on a IGLOO channel for 30 mins SHOULD update the guide.

Excellent customer service, MOST surprised to receive a phone call in reply to an email.
