willnjen: Working great casting to chromecast in full screen mode. I'm a long time Netflix user and I'm impressed with Lightbox content and tech setup.

This would give a blank screen during the beta, so if they have remedied that, its a step in the right direction. Not as good as a native playback, but at least one way to get content to the big screen (and cheaply).

We've not made any direct integration/implementation on Chromecast, so while it may worked, there are no guarantees and your experience may vary (a lot actually).

I don't think there is any reason to think of Netflix vs Lightbox is an 'either/or' dilemma. There is no reason why you can't have both. Even together at about $25/month they come in significantly less than the cost of just Sky basic ($45/month).

Whilst Lightbox has less content overall than Netflix, there is still quite a bit of very recent content on Lightbox that isn't on Netflix - Homeland, Vikings, Outlander, latest season of 24, Black Sails, are ones I have noticed, there may be more. None of those are on Netflix yet - likely too new since most Netflix content is at least 2 years old. Only their own stuff (house of cards etc) tends to be very recent.
And there is some other, older but still good, stuff too on Lightbox - like south park, community (awesome show!),The Wiggles, that Netflix doesn't have either.

I have both subscriptions, and actually found myself watching more Lightbox than Netflix during the Beta period.

I guess running with it for a few months and then making a call isn't going to break the bank...and as you say, it may end up a preferred service!

Chromecast support would be my must have feature if I was going to pay for this past the trial. It's the cheapest streaming dongle and has the advantage of being cross platform which airplay will never be.

Chromecast is also my preferred way to control the media playback. Not wireless keyboard and mouse or remote. Just grab whatever android or ios device you have on hand, connect to the chromecast and do whatever pausing\fast forward\volume you want.

Hmmm...why do you need a warning if a new device is being registered? It's more of a question as to why a new device is being registered without your prior knowledge as an account owner. If a device connected to the account, it is assumed that you gave the username and password. I say you need to facilitate this feature, check for unknown devices on your profile and if this happens you need to change your password immediately, that's what I would do.

If you have one PC but you use the browser in private mode or clear the cookies after each use, then every time you use it to view Lightbox then it will use 1 of your 5 allocated devices. When you use it for the sixth time it will tell you that you have used all your devices. When you look at your account it will show PC Computer in all 5 slots.

Procrastination eventually pays off.

This is definitely something to look at from a support point of view. If the application is looking at TEMPORARY data to identify the device then this could be a real problem. *Checking my devices*

I will sign up for the trial, and because I have Spark broadband, I will take advantage of the $7.50/month deal. After 7 months I will make a decision on keeping Lightbox and/or Netflix.

I'm hoping that they can get to critical mass and start filling the schedule a bit more, but the starting lineup is pretty impressive.

Some old TVNZ stuff would be great too (ala Heartland).

Theres also a lot of quality Aussie shows (both past and present) that LightBox may be able to obtain for comparatively cheap rates. It would help to differentiate themselves further from NetFlix, and make them more attractive to existing NetFlix parallel importers here.

I wonder if lightbox will reach Aus too. And yeah I hope they do get more shows but the starting line up is enough for me at the moment. I don't have a lot of time anyway so 3 episodes a day is actually a lot of hours!

Anyone having trouble with Silverlight not working/crashing?

Can't seem to get mine going in all browsers, even with a couple of reinstalls of the plugin. iPad is out of the question as well because it is jailbroken and Lightbox wont work on this. Was the only way to speed up my ageing tablet after making the mistake of updating to iOS7 i.e tweaking animations and timings, make Chrome respond quicker, oh and installing f.lux.

Maybe it just isn't meant to be.
