I did the manual update. I don't see any downside at the moment. I must admit I was expecting the ondemand part to be streaming but it asked if I wanted to download. I guess that is better if your internet speed isn't consistently fast. But I wonder how much disk space it will chew up as I only have the standard mysky hdi.
As far as the info placard goes, I do like to flick it up to see what's coming up while still watching, but it now obscures more of the screen but in the end that's not really a biggy.

looks like a little powered wifi point which connects via ethernet

Just out of curiosity, when SKY first appeared in New Zealand, what were the five channels???
wonder if someone out there still has the very first SKY WATCH magazine with TV listings inside? :D

The satellite service became available in early 1997. They showed the same channels that were available on the UHF service at the time. (Sky Movies, Sky Sport, Sky News, Discovery, Trackside, and Orange from memory! We actually had it installed before it officially launched just to get Trackside!)

About a 18 months later there was the change over to the digital satellite service.

When I looked at the dongle on the Sky website a few weeks ago, it said it would cost $17.50. When I ordered it online yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was free.

What does favourite channels even do?? When I press the button for it it just scrolls up a channel to ones that aren't my favourite.

The SKY Link plugs into an ethernet-type port on the back of the sky box, and will also need to be plugged into a power point. The ethernet and power cables come in the box with the Link device, which also has simple instructions on how to connect to your wifi (but basically it's through the Setup menu - I think it's something like Setup > Settings > Network settings).

Not that I need one because mine is a direct ether connection but is the the wifi point just "N" or is it "AC". Just curious.

ok mine was upgraded this morning and eager to see what on demand had to offer i set up my wifi box they sent me , it found my fritxbox and asked me to enter my network password and then the fun started. The fritzbox has a 20 number password and the mysky box will only go up to a 16 number password which is strange as the new sky box in the bedroom connected no problem and even Sky is stumped and said there is no difference in software between the old mysky box and the new one and they should accept the password. They are looking into it. Has anyone had this problem and i did try to use the wps button on both units to connect , nothing.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

As a non Sky subscriber, can I just ask (as I've seen conflicting reports as to the new 'On Demand" content, is the new on demand stuff available in HD or SD only?? Does it relate to the package your on? If no HD ticket, can you see TV 1, TV2 and TV3 HD Content?

Well, I didn't get "next week" notice the OP got - yesterday I received an email saying "Tonight we’ll be upgrading the software on your MY SKY HDi/+". As I had already updated manually last week I was interested to check everything this morning, and all recorded shows and series linked future recordings, etc. were still in the planner, as they were after updating last week, which was what I expected...

I dont think you can get any TVNZ OnDemand or 3Now content via Sky OnDemand. If TVNZ arent willing to show popup channels for Sky subscribers I doubt that they'd be letting FreeviewPlus content be streamed to the Sky boxes.

I cant speak to whether the sky ondemand content is SD or HD. I think its the former from comments but it appears the content list is Neon on steriods so if Neon content is streamed HD I'd be surprised if the Sky ondemand isnt.

To get movies you need to be a movies subscrber, to get soho content, a soho subscriber etc.
