Apparently the delay was due to reliability problems. Yet the device they brought to market was very unreliable and offered a poor experience . If it had been a better device it may have been different. The lack of recording was a major fail IMO, as was the terrible ondemand video hiring system, which had the worst and slowest interface ever. Tivos wasn't great either, but tivos was 100 times better than Igloos. They really should have produced something as good as the mysky box, to fill the tivo and standalone PVR market.

I think people how subscribed to igloos/skys addon service, who are now going to get sky basic if they chose to for 12 months, are getting a reasonable level of compensation. Although I don't think they are saving anything, just getting a better service, that you can also record, as I presume a new mysky box is included? Although you have to have an ugly satellite dish installed on the house, which you don't get when using online services or UHF. However people who were solely using it for freeview, and don't want sky at all, have been left out in the cold with the compensation offered, eg They get nothing and lose an essential service with the EPG and with it showing you what is on TV. The other thing is that they didn't contact all cusomters about this, as my parent never got an email, yet they have an igloo account. So not great communications from sky/igloo, when you only learn about it first from the media

I used to use it for 6 months or so when it first came out. But then, when you want the same channel packs in another room... it's a lot of pissing around with video senders or another box and Sky being Sky, yet another channel pack. So you pay twice if you want the privilege of not moving decoder from room to room. Stuff that. Both of mine have been collecting dust ever since.

I thought about getting it back on if they put Discovery Turbo on it. But it's no surprise it went belly up. I never received a single survey or questionnaire from Igloo as to what I'd pay for to watch or would rather in the channel line up etc... Talk about completely out of touch with their customer base!

Sky will keep kicking and screaming and throwing tantrums until eventually they might look back and go, we should have offered A La Carte channel subscriptions. People don't want what they don't want. I thought the demand for online and what and when you want it content clearly shows this. Meanwhile, Sky continue to slip and slide in the market, if you ask me, to much analysis paralysis going on in that company now instead of leading home media content.

It was only natural Igloo would go belly up. Right from the outset, it has Sky's touch all over it. It's just a scramble to try and force people to move to Sky while their numbers dwindle.

Good luck to them on that.

I agree, I would rather pay for six channels of content I want to watch, as opposed to 194 that are of no interest to me.

In a way, Sky UHF (in the, uh, "olden days") was better - they only had 5 channels, but they were (mostly) full of quality content. Now it seems to be more quantity as opposed to quality.

Only the basic box is included: the PVR version would be an extra $15/month. SkyGo is included, however. And our house already has a Sky dish on it from the previous owners.

I know someone who has the sky basic package, and they were given the Mysky box as a free addon by sky. I think it is one of the older boxes, but still better than no box.

I get all the emails for igloo as I set it up for them and it goes to a gmail address. I can only see emails from them, in 2015 and nothing in spam. Checked their igloo login, and can't see anywhere where you manage email subscriptions or notifications.

It doesnt do PPV, although Ilm sure after the boxing saga, it might have been stated that its on the cards.

The only reason I ever used Igloo was for Pay Per View things like boxing and such, which it served its purpose well. How am I able to watch Boxing matches without becoming a sky customer? I really never want to pay for sky ever again in my life

Fan pass seems costly, but its what sports cost. Overseas like services are a like price. Sports here is subsidised by Basic, hopefully when Sky Go SVOD that handholding will cease and Basic can be $15 and Sports $60

I never was convinced Igloo would be a success. Unfortunately it looks like that turned out to be right. I have an Igloo box I was given by Igloo floating around somewhere, not sure where that got to actually...

I wonder how they get on with Fair Trading Act and Consumer Guarantees Act given that the box was principally sold on the basis that you could get the channel pack onan ongoing basis? I'm not experienced with our consumer protection laws from the point of view of a service. I suspect their discounted Sky offer is probably just sufficient to get around this.

Just got a phonecall from Sky. They don't tell you the following:

1) The MySky box (if wanted) is $15 per month for the 320gb model, $20 for the 1tb model.
2) I still got asked if I wanted HD.
3) I also got told I get "Free Sports for a month" - just something I would have to ensure I cancel.

So, that $20 per month (normally $49.91/mo) quickly turns out to be quite expensive. I declined their offer in the end since my TV actually does Freeview+, it took 5mins of saying "no I don't want the offer anymore"

As indicated above, Sky installed their box almost 2 weeks ago. Within 4 hours of the initial install the grey "weather is feicin' up your signal" message appeared. Resets and reboots fixed nothing so I rang them and they agreed to send another tech out in a couple of days. Meanwhile we plugged our Igloo back in, which continued to work perfectly.

Tech #2 was awesome: realised the issue immediately, climbed up on the roof and swapped out some ports (or something port-ish) and the problem was resolved.

Getting many more channels than Igloo, but probably will drop it once the price goes back to "normal" Sky ($20 versus $50 a month). Nice to have so many news networks. We didn't go for the PVR box and haven't tried MySky, even though it's included.

Was surprised they didn't offer a free preview of Sports or other packages, which digital TV in Soviet Canuckistan always did.

I see they have added PPV events to the fanpass page for the same price as what they were charging through igloo so thats all good. Thats the only reason i was using the thing anyway. I just hope a streamed event works well.
