@GeorgefromLightbox any plans for an Amazon Fire TV app? I guess there's quite a few users of ATV around that would like to have access to the service.

@GeorgefromLightbox whats the story with android 8.0 and the lack of support on some devices?
@freitasm not yet; would need an idea of actual Fire TV numbers/penetration in the NZ market before doing so. Not to say we wouldn't though!
@Jase2985 this is very weird, the app was tested extensively on Oreo - BUT an update to 8.1 and beyond has been released since development started. What device do you have? Does it have any pending software updates?
@GeorgefromLightbox no pending updates to 8.1 yet, and its noted on your website that there could be issues, im just wondering why when its pretty much the latest android OS. its a Huawei Mate 9
Ok thanks for the info. We're going to investigate.

If you can side load the Android TV APK works pretty much perfectly on the Fire TV
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
AndroidTV APK https://we.tl/mGUKh8DsMH if you want to sideload to Android TV
Note the APK is not native.

Any chance of linking the android tv APK? Or is this a bad idea.
One positive change I have not seen commented on, I can now successfully cast from my android mobile to my mibox, and it works very well. With the old version this would return a error.
Sorry, it IS the AndroidTV APK. I updated the post to reflect.
I'm a bit tired, sorry for the confusion..
If the latest Android TV APK won't play videos on an Andorid TV box, what sort of settings should I look at?
Mike
Unfortunately we don't support 'actual' Android TV boxes (hence my giving out the APK on here to use at people's own risk); the only thing I can do is clarify a few things -

- What make/model?
- What DRM version does it run? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidfung.drminfo&hl=en
It's a MiBox 4K.
I'm not sure what version of DRM it runs. I'll side-load that app and find out.
I suspect there may be a DRM issue as the Chromecast built into it doesn't work with LB either and the chromecast receiver software is up to date.

Heres the DRM info for my Mi Box 3 Android TV Box. and the error you get when you play video.
I was told by GeorgefromLightbox that the Android TV App which is only about 800KB is not a full App.
Unlike the tablet/phone version which is about 6MB.
It loads up Lightbox in Android System WebView Androids built in Web Browser which varies between Android TV box. This is probably why some devices can play it like Sony Tvs and the Nvidia Shield TV
And some cannot play video like the Mi Box which is a popular cheap Android TV Box.
I took advantage of the "free" movie the night you relaunched, but had endless issues with it, though I did eventually get to watch (it kept stopping). I presume it's more trouble than it's worth to try and do something about that now?
