sm1ff: I am also personally struggling to find 5.1 audio. Even on the sports channels, there doesn't seem to be 5.1 on the rugby anymore and I know for a fact that it used to be. I feel that my home theater setup which is used for sky is being wasted.

Also no knowledge of any other HD channel upgrades currently.

Local Rugby/Cricket etc is usually 5.1. Overseas sourced ‘live’ material varies quite a bit. I think from memory, you rarely get overseas Rugby with 5.1, but occasionally Cricket, Motor Racing etc.

The movie channels and SoHo typically show 5.1 content, but I agree that it’s best to make the most of the gear! 😊

Prime and Sky 5 are only two channel DD.

Salvation on Sky 5 was 2 channel and though on Netflix it's 5.1.

Other then using decoder to record freeview, I'm gone/going off Sky, as they can't even introduce more HD channels without losing/holding something else back, in this case it's DD5.1.

If they made Food TV HD you can bet it won't be in 5.1 surround. 🤣

I don't need someone to tell me how to cook in Surround Sound.

I do need to see the ingrediants and techniques more clearly.

I had smiley face after Food TV comment, know unlikely to be seen as benefit for that type of program.

There are other programs that would benefit, and Sky holds back.

I scanned D1 the other day and there were 8 channels that loaded as "NEW HD" as the channel names.

National Geographic went "HD" today - 1440 rather than 1920 as for other Sky "HD" channels, but a decent bit rate.  I saw 2.5-3.9 Mbit/s over the minute or so I watched it for.  And MythTV reported 6 audio channels now in AC3, so I presume that is 5.1 audio.  I only do 2 channel stereo so I can not check if it really is 5.1.  I had to update MythTV's tuning data though - the PMT PID has changed.

@Apsattv would you consider editing your first post with the most updated list of channels that are HD now?

Home theatre reports ads are Dolby Digital 2.0, and Brain Games was DD 5.1 3/2.1

Unfortunately it has caused issues in SkyGo catchup / recordings

I catch up on Air Crash Investigations on Saturday mornings and was looking forward to watching it this week as I knew it would be HD for the last episode

And it is, but as it is only 2.0 in Sky Go, instead of downmixing, they have only taken L/R from the Dolby stream.

So I get a show with sound effects only, no dialogue.

Now I’ll need to find a rerun and watch it whilst on.

Hope they fix this.

So now we know that actually lose sound information on Sky streaming products.

Copying left and right channels only and with National Geographic been caught out as speech lost in conversion.

If they left the sound alone and streamed DD, wouldn't be a problem, except they seem to see streaming as a competitor to decoder box so have to lower the experience from my standpoint.

I've looked at latest Air Crash on Ipad and confirm speech lost, but plays during adds advertising other Geographic shows.
