richms: They are paying tvnz per customer for that crap called heartland. That really annoys me since I dont want to see that junk but if I get sky, tvnz are getting paid if I watch it or not.

A lot of us rural ( and probably a few urban people as well I would imagine ) folk like a lot of shows on the Heartland channel. We can't stand Vibe, Food, The Box, Comedy channels and Prime to name a few, just goes to show - you can't please everyone all the time.

More HD sport and we will be happier.

mentalinc: Agree also with the "let me customise and pay for a package of programs I watch".
I don't want to subsidize those with poor parental skills who use nickelodeon as a form of baby sitter.

Extactly. Hence why should I pay for it when I don't use it?

I wasnt disagreeing with your point, more the fact that you equate childrens programming with poor parenting skills :)

For billions of years since the outset of time, every single one of your ancestors survived, every single person on your Mum and Dads side, successfully looked after and passed onto you life.  What are the chances of that like?

+1 for being able to choose my own channel selection.
I love sport, my wife likes movies (and the Living Channel), and we have kids, so we've got 55 channels (I just made that number up, but I bet it's close). At last count there were 22 that we never, or hardly ever, watch. That's half my bill right there.

+1 for the program guide lasting more than a week.
If they can publish a whole month's programming in SkyWatch, why can't I program MySky to record something next Friday?

Oh, and a MySky remote that it's easier to open when the batteries need changing.
Or is it just me that finds that thing ridiculously difficult to get into?

SyFy has too many reality shows.

Space (www.spacecast.com) is a much better example of a SciFi channel.

Space is a canadian specialty channel that was only created to stop the the SciFi channel from being launched thanks to canadas protectionist system, so there is no chance of it coming here.

I aim to misbehave.

If they ever have a 100% Motorsport channel then that will be the day I get Sky!

That's why they changed their name from SciFi to SyFy   so that they could show more non scifi crap..

+1 for SyFy

+1 for choosing channels

Also never going to happen, but non lossy, non encrypted, non DRM's recordings accseible from any network connected device in the house. Also media box functionality on mysky to play all my MKV's, dvix's etc etc. Even better, open source entire mysky platform and let the FOSS community mod it, fork it, skin it, etc.

i will say customize channels sounds good but it will just be a nightmare for alot of things, billing, IT, CSR etc... and it may not be cheaper.
have you seeing anywhere offer this?
the DRM stuff is a more content provider thing. not really the carrier to be honest.

I recall a provider in Hong Kong offering it years ago (maybe PCCW?) but I think it lapsed.  Unsure why.

Yes, my realistic wish is that Sky will pick up HD F1 coverage. I think they will too.

As for picking channels, hmmm yeah, I agree to a point. But it really gets messy. Have a look at the Foxtel website where they break the channels down even more. In reality I wouldn't end up saving much, because there is often just one channel in each bouquet that I'd watch, which means I have to take the whole lot.

I really don't think it'll save you any money.

Yeah, I'd love Sky to show Speed like has come to Foxtel as of late last year.

I hope so too! My only concern is that quite often F1 is on Sky Sport 3 which I believe is not HD?
