MySky upgraded overnight and wireless access point arrived this afternoon. Just finished setting up and now downloading a 60 min programme which I can watch at 2.00 am. Now thats what I call On Demand Yeah Right

Have a fiber connection that has no trouble streaming Netflix & Lightbox
Don't think this will make me keep my subscription Sky

I was curious about your post so I started downloading something after I read it.  45 mins program, 685mb, I could start watching it about 20 seconds after I started downloading and its already 10% complete within 5 mins.  I shouldve timed it and will do so next time.
I'm on ADSL @ 12-13mbs.  Something sound wrong at your end or program specific.
Can I enquire what program?  I'll try to replicate if you like.

AFAIK, normal streaming is streaming. End of story. It would buffer so you can watch uninterrupted. BB speed would dictate that being fine, or buffering. Sky downloads the stream. So you can treat it as a record if you wanted it and watch later, or you can start watching from the Planner a minute or so later. best of both worlds, and ideal for a catchup on a slow connection. Thats how I see it

Exactly - so it seems weird that a fibre user cant start watching while its streaming, that he has to wait until 2am?  something not making sense.

Has finished now, took around 3 hrs. Checking setup and everything looks ok/ Wireless strength is showing around 80% so that should be fine, Will try something else

Have you got a long enough ethernet cable to try in case it is the wifi strength?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Tried this just now.  25 seconds until I could start watching, after 1 minute it was 4% complete.  It doesnt appear to be the program per se.

This is not normally, i would suggest using a ethernet cable to see what happens.
I am on fibre 100/20 (slingshot) wifi to a access point upstairs then cable to mysky box and I can stream anything from on demand within 20 seconds, movies down in about 10/15 minutes.

We got upgraded a couple of days ago. Does anyone know how to turn off the preview/live TV view in the guide? The settings seem to be quite limited.

Review of the new software so far, wife hates it, she lost some of her recorded shows. Interface seems slow, on demand is quite painful compared to Netflix etc.
