In the last Sky report they stated their plan was to continue their "premium" satellite service, But would be negotiating for less satellite capacity. Which is easy for them do once they shift the rest of their transponders to DVB-S2.

How many years in a row have they said this now? :o

I've said it in other threads, but it is going to be at least 10-15 years before Sky even consider shutting down satellite delivery. VDSL/UFB is still not widely available, and even where it is, not all houses have a VDSL/UFB connection. Foxtel Australia run Foxtel Now (delivered via the Internet) as well as a satellite / stb packages, and they don't seem to have any plans either to shut that down.

Once. They have never said they will provide a full channel app (which will end Multi Room, and remove the need for satellite and STB's)

As I mentioned, they can keep satellite small and user pays. If it went to a user sub model, the user pays the sub, Sky doesn't wear any cost. Should the Optus deal be re signed and very very very good, it will be very good for all subscribers

Im sure they will continue it, but on a cost scheme that doesn't penalise them when more and more move to the apps. I see a per user sub, fully paid by the user

Hi, have sent you a PM

Finally got around to sorting it out. Thanks chillr I have got it working! That is my (parents) vu+ solo2 can download the full 7 day opentv guide from the 12519 transponder. It wasn't smooth sailing though. The frequency for the epg channel didn't match what was in that config file so initially it wouldn't tune it. I think it's because I did a blindscan to scan the channels..? Or is it drift? Any who, once I changed the frequency the download went fine.

I know I didn't use the same crossepg version as yourself, so I'm betting it shouldn't matter which version of crossepg people use. As long as they have the config files.

Talking about 4K, Foxtel announced today that they are going to have a 4K channel (and a new STB) in time for this year's cricket https://mediaweek.com.au/foxtel-unveils-4k-big-screen-clear-pictures/ and its not going to cost any more than standard HD. I'm guessing Sky has no plans to match.

I've noticed today that I'm not getting any data past 2359hrs on Saturday. That was from a scan at 0430hrs on the 14th, did a forced scan now with the same results.

Considering Sky NZ still charge for HD...I think thats a pretty safe bet!  It will be at least another 5-10 years before Kiwi's get a 4k service by Sky....Netflix and Amazon (and likely Spark) will by that time be well established in the UHD arena....and Sky will either be still floundering or will have gone the way of the dodo!

I'm pretty sure that Foxtel still charge extra for HD so drawing a correlation between HD charge and offering 4K is spurious at best.  But Foxtel wont be charging an additional premium for 4K.  The IQ4 box will cost an additional $50 compared to the IQ2 box.  And I see that Foxtel are putting up the price of its basic tier on 1 October.

4K was highlighted on the Sky roadmap back in March.  As to timing on that roadmap - your guess of 5-10 years is as good as anyones.

Yes, Foxtel charge a $10 HD access fee for cable and satellite customers, just like Sky NZ does (which makes Sky cheaper considering the exchange rate and higher GST). My point is that they aren't charging any more than the HD access fee (at the moment at least) for the 4K channel.

HD access is free on Foxtel Now, as it is on FanPass (and I assume Neon)

No matter what I do, reboot, forced download, defrag, format flash drive, etc etc I have no EPG. I can go back to EIT and I get epg back, but nothing via CrossEPG.

Sorry, yes I am, but since the tuner card has died I would suspect that was the fault ;) tho it must have been temperamental as I lost epg first, then signal became unstable, then tune failed.

Now I just need to decide if I replace it, and if so what/where. Currently waiting on World of Satellite to give me a quote for shipping on a Vu+.
