SeymourScagnetti:

Hey Trig42,

Thanks for the note.

We are on it and we're not sure why it is happening in some instances.

Can I ask you if you were using airplay/chromecast or the native Apple TV App?

Cheers

Alex

Hi SeymourScagnetti - any update on when these issues will be fixed?  I have the same problem as Trig in that when using the Apple TV 4 native Fan Pass app there is the "On Now xxxxxx" wording at the bottom of the screen which is very annoying - this doesn't appear if I airplay from the Fan Pass app on my iPad, however that defeats the purpose of using the native Apple TV 4 app.

Cheers

The app is with Apple for review currently. It seems to be taking much longer than usual. I suspect that they are overrun as a raft of app publishers have had to do unexpected updates thanks to iOS 10.

Watching cricket. It keeps freezing. back out, change to SS2, ok, then SS3, ok. Fixed. For the next 15 minutes.

Image quality is average, slow panning shows jerkiness.

Just me?  ChCh Fibre 100, ethernet to ATV4

Seymour, any info? If some streams are less than ideal, Im just looking for a fix, if there is an issue. If some streams are average, just let us know to expect that at times, i.e. not a fault.

Any update Seymour? Big weekend of sport coming up and don't really want to have to stream from iPhone/iPad in order to get rid of the now playing words on the screen or the constant crashing.

@SeymourScagnetti

+ 1 on this request. Was going to use it for SA v NZ on Sunday morning, would rather use the ATV4 app then Airplay from iPad, but will do it to get rid of annoying nag in bottom corner.

With Bathurst, F1 and Test cricket on all the same day decided to give this a go. Already use my parents Sky Go account but thought Fan Pass would have some benefits.

Before I parted with the money I had a few requirements

Needs to have Apple TV app

Needs to be in HD (pref 1080p)

Needs to have Bathurst coverage which is on a pop up channel

Quick read on their website confirmed all of the above so signed up which was fairly painless (it was super fussy about the format of my cellphone number) and I was ready to go. Installed Fan Pass app onto Apple TV and thought I would be settling in for some aussie V8 action for the afternoon. After hunting around the app  couldn't find any way to access the pop up channel that Bathurst is on, I could access highlights from qualifying etc so keep looking. Went back to website to check they did indeed advertise that it was on Fan Pass then notice in the fine print "Desktop PC/Mac only" for Bathurst (or any pop up channel). Not a show stopper for me as do have a PC hooked up to the PC via HDMI but annoying and by now missed the start of the race. Why not have it in anything other than the website? It isn't a rights issue so I'm guessing it is because it is easy to change the website temporarily to add a pop up channel but they haven't worked out a good to way to this on apps.

So now all hooked up and watching Bathurst in glorious HD... except it isn't really. Reading the FAQ again it is suggested that it is 720p and it is better than Sky Go but only marginal. Compared to the downloads I watch of Sky Sports F1 coverage it is fairly poor. Would be interesting to compare side by side vs Sky's HD normal subscription service (probably someone has in this 50+ page thread). Frame rate also looks low resulting in some jerkiness. Sound is disappointing flat sounding too. A few times the feed would hang and then resume or switch to lower res for a bit before returning back (Spark 100M UFB via ethernet). Watchable for Sports? For sure but not exactly the premium you'd think when paying the premium price tag.

When the cricket started up I was hoping to be able to watch the race on the iPad while watching the cricket on the TV via Apple TV. Nope, only one stream at time. Achieved this in the end by using Sky Go on the iPad. *sigh*

So $20 to watch all that yesterday plus a few more days of cricket (if we last that long) is not a bad deal. Think they should have a $5 one event option though.

All in all it is a step in the right direction for Sky but can't help feeling it is half baked on purpose, they really want to you to stick to cave man ways of dish on the roof + box under your TV + locked in monthly subscription fee. Think will stick to my parents SkyGo account for now, may try again when Fan Pass 3.0 comes out.

What I find is some sport is very close to the Sky box experience. Others are not. Some, the India cricket was quite poor, given the judder.

I'm tempted to get Sky back. Or another option.

I guess the F1 coverage was slightly better quality than Bathurst but still a far cry from the quality of Sky UK broadcast's F1 races that I watch. Surround sound for F1 races is a nice have too...

Hi DatrkCypher,

I can confirm that PS4 is currently in development and should be in market before Christmas

Yep. BT Sky 10/10, Fanpass 7/10 from the little I have watched on it. 7 max. LPGA is very good though, it must have something to do with what Sky gets given to it, streaming wise at the source end? If it was 7.5/10 all the time, well ok, but its variable. The crickect in India was watcheable, but not for me, the judder is so annoying

Ended up reading this entire thread last night in between watching us crumble in the cricket.

Maybe my half baked comment above was a bit harsh, it does appear that Sky are trying hard to get this right but it is hard to shake the feeling that it could be better if they really put their weight (and money) behind it. It is FANTASTIC to see Sky actively engaging with the geekzone community though so really hope they keep it up.

I did have quite a few freezes last night (Apple TV on ethernet, Spark 100/20 fibre) once we got to about the 9pm mark. I know this is peak usage time but speedtests to both NZ and Sydney (I think the FanPass CDN is hosted in Sydney) keep showing solid 100 down and 20 up. Every time a jump out to the index and reselecting the channel would fix it but does get tiresome after the 3rd/4th time etc.

I don't have an issue with the pricing but at that price I expect a reliable service, the comments on here suggest there are still kinks to be ironed out.

Good to read that, so its not me. Hope the Sky people here can fix this.

I watched the ABs v SA on Sunday, followed by AU v ARG. I had it freeze (right on Perenara's Try that shouldn't have been a try) - I returned to menu and restarted stream and it was fine after that, but it would be good if these freezes didn't happen.

Quality was good. The Annoying 'Up Next' blurb in the bottom left of the screen that was there last time was gone this time.

Happy with the product overall. Still tossing up whether or not to use it for ABs v AU in a couple of weeks or to go to pub. Pub I know won't freeze...
