grolschie: At $15 per match its way more expensive than hiring out a new release Blu-Ray/DVD.
grolschie: Probably not, but still $15 per match might put off some people. Some might be better off seeing it for free at the pub and spend the $15 on a couple of beers. ;-)
What about when there's a tournament on over a period of a few weeks e.g. if Igloo had launched in time for the Euro 2012 cup? That'd get real expensive if you wanted to watch a reasonable number of matches at $15 a pop.
IGLOO ANNOUNCES WE ARE ALMOST READY... ALMOST
IGLOO today announced that an expected end of June launch will now likely be July.
Chaz Savage, GM of IGLOO, explains, “This slight delay is due to the fact that IGLOO is currently putting boxes out in the market place. We want the opportunity to talk to these customers, implement any changes and ensure we are ready…this is ground breaking technology and we aren’t buying an off the shelf TV service, we are creating one!
“This is about ensuring we can give our customers the best product experience possible. We are determined to launch a product that consumers love and we therefore will not be rushing IGLOO out until we are completely confident that it’s ready.”
A closed group of customers are presently testing the IGLOO product from ordering an IGLOO box through IGLOO’s website or call centre, to buying events on IGLOO’s pay-per-view sports channel FRONT ROW, and streaming movies direct to their TV.
“IGLOO will become a long term entertainment option which will provide Kiwis with flexible, fun, entertainment for many decades to come – with this in mind we hope that Kiwis understand we want to get this right first time.”

trig42: I would be keen on Igloo, if I could record.
crackrdbycracku: I think there are some use cases but they pre-suppose a few things.?
It could be a set top box with bonuses if you have an old TV and see no need change for the digital switch-over, maybe? If for some reason you don't just want a normal Freeview decoder or a DVR one.?
The PPV movies might appeal if you don't want an Apple TV or QuickFlix for some reason.?
If you'er kind of a sports fan but you don't want to more then, say, four events a month that might work. Maybe?
Yeah, I get that all these reasons are pretty weak.?
The problem is that Sky don't want to compete with themselves, or worse undercut themselves. I think 50,000 new customers is a bit hopeful.
I'm struggling to see where the target market is, but I'm happy to hear why someone is excited about it. ?
Jaxson: Freeview approved? ie will it get the EPG for instance?
One off, no ongoing fees and then PPV for a wide range of sporting events will work for me.
I need F1 (ideally as a delayed replay?) NRL and Rugby matches only.
In an ideal world I'd pay $10 or so for a 1 day subscription to the Sky Sports channels!
