Noodles: We got upgraded a couple of days ago. Does anyone know how to turn off the preview/live TV view in the guide? The settings seem to be quite limited.

Review of the new software so far, wife hates it, she lost some of her recorded shows. Interface seems slow, on demand is quite painful compared to Netflix etc.

When you mean preview do you mean the letterbox picture - called mini tv and turned off/on with the red button?
Or the audio preview/background channel?  If its audio that you want to change (previously you could turn it off or set it to music rather than the channel) then I dont think one can.  It was a drawback highlighted in earlier reviews on stuff, nbr and the herald.

I did the forced upgrade, lost nothing - have other people do the same with no loss of recorded shows.  If they are sky shows then chances are you could find them ondemand.  if tvnz or mediaworks then catch up via their streaming offerings.  losing shows or missing shows is a PITA so commiserations.

I received the Sky Link wireless connector this morning.

Hooked it up, following sequence in the instructions to the letter.

Still getting the old interface on the TV. Called Sky and was told that my MySky+ box had not yer received its new software.

Seems a bit odd that they sent out the little box before the software was sent out

Does anyone know when this will happen?
Do I leave the new connection box switched on?

Any advice gratefully received.

The Link connector is separate to the updated UI. The new box software will download via your Sky satellite connection. The Link connects the Sky box to your wifi if you can't use an Ethernet cable, and you'll use it to download On Demand content after you have the new software/UI on the box.

Nobody can tell you when you're scheduled for the software update, but you'll get a letter or email from Sky telling you when it's your turn.

I ordered my SKY Link myself as soon as I heard other people were getting the update rolled out from Sky, then updated my box manually when the Link arrived.

Deleting.

We watch part of a series. Press Planner before its finished, go to delete and no yellow Delete option. I think I noticed it automagically appeared after a while.
Ive noticed this before since the update, any ideas?

Surely I have this all wrong..

Sky is auto updating the software via a satellite connection so that you need an internet connection to even WATCH sky. And since the boxes don't have wifi you need your sky box and your modem to be in the same place - which they are probably aren't; and the workaround is a sky link device which will probably take a week in the mail to arrive... Which most people wont realize they need until the update has already gone through?

yes you do have it wrong, it will still work like before you just won't be able to use the new on-demand function unless it's connected to the internet.

You only need an internet connection to download On Demand content. You can watch regular programming and shows on your planner (including previously downloaded On Demand content) without being connected to the internet.

I ordered my SKY Link about lunchtime and it was delivered by courier less than 48 hours later, so not too long to wait. I agree that they probably need to be pushing the connectivity options more though; the message is out there but Sky could have been more proactive about it. I know a few people who didn't know until they got their "you are about to be updated" email and some, like me, only received that email the day before their update was scheduled (although I had already updated manually before I got my email).

Or they could just go to http://www.skyondemand.co.nz/connect.php and read everything they need to know.

Bit disappointed on that Sky Demand TV Series stuff , Walking Dead for example goes up to Series 4 ..

Is this to be expected ?  Or will Sky slowly catch up and make it really up to DATE ?

Recall that TVNZ has the rights to Walking Dead so for Sky to acquire for OnDemand it has to buy the window after FTA (usually when box sets start to come out).  It was released in box set in early September so its a matter of waiting for Sky to acquire the most recent episodes.
Same with Netflix and Lightbox - if someone has broadcast rights in NZ then they need to wait until those rights have expired before they acquire the next window.

I forced my update over a week ago.

I like (in order):
1) You can record 3 programmes at once.
2) The interface is modern and much better structured, I really like the tabs, much more logical.  I don't have problems viewing it - I think those people just have bad TV's or not using HDMI.
3) Being able to scroll through 7 days while watching.
4) The favourite channels.
5) The folders of recordings (takes a bit of getting used to).

I don't like:
1) There is no longer number a minutes remaining when watching a recording - Just started and finishing time - so you have to sit there working out how long is left.  If you record part way through a programme it's really difficult to work out how long is left.
2) That your choices on the tabs do not stay - eg: I want to be able to always have the guide on Favourites.
3) The lag at certain points (so far I have noted - returning from watching a recording about 2 secs and going to the Box Office tab).
4) People that comment on this Forum that don't have Sky and hate Sky and harass people that have Sky.

Wish List:
1) FTA On Demand incorporated (I know, I know - dreaming).

Overall really good that Sky has done this at no extra cost, even though it will be costing them millions.  Although of course they had to really.
