Not far off

Just wait for the 3G icon and that means 3G is on for you

Maybe you are not in the 3G coverage foot print for your area yet

drove through Paraparumu again today  still no 3G on my phone.
Stopped for a few minutes and spoke to Vodafone shop .
Very helpful sales lady says they are hopeful to have it on for Christmas
She also said a few tests have been carried out in recent days . I assume coverage tests !!

cheers

I drove through there today as well and noticed that there was no 3G coverage either. There was on Thursday and I've been up there quite a few times over the past 3 or 4 weeks and have had 3G coverage every time. There was only coverage available from the main Paraparaumu site above the township, obviously this has been switched off for some reason.

May have been problems or just doing coverage tests

Will have a look in a few days and see if any antennas installed on the other kapiti sites

def none on Otaki yet  ( pukehou hill )

Before 3G goes live full time in a new area many hours of testing are done: Walking / driving

Testing hand over and mapping coverage and many other things

Slow? I have been waiting for 3G coverage in Paekakariki (on Paekakariki Hill Rd, Pauatahanui side of it) for ages, but nothing. I was hoping to have this sometime now, but alas ended up having to sign up MIL to Xtra DSL instead...

I know this is slightly OT but it's quite ironic that Vodafone have rolled out a large number of new 3G sites in Wellington over the past 2 months and yet there are areas such as Makara, Houghton Bay and Breaker Bay (to name a few) that have no GSM coverage and have had Telecom coverage for years. Vodafone seemed to have put all their $$ into the 3G rollout.

I don't believe Forest Heights is going to be 3G but Ngarara Rd (TV translator) will be. The Forest Heights site is a dog anyway and has had poor coverage since it was installed due to the direction of the panels. The Paekakariki site is similair - BellSouth tried to roll out their network by putting sites on the top of high hills all the way along the Coast - unfortunately when you're using panel antennas aimed North & South and your customers are 200m directly below the coverage tends to be poor.

Yesterday I was at Parade Cafe, Oriental Parade and couldn't place a voice call. Only one bar and sometimes none. Appaling, knowing this is probably the busiest place in Wellington on sunny weekends.

I know what you mean by those panels  I have same problem with the pukehou one    side on to it and about a 30 deg down angle  plus pine tress   all adds up to not much signal
Ok Ngarara  not know for good coverage !!  lots trees and too low but  that will explain why I see a microwave link licence to there from Forest heights
